Editorial Reviews

Album Notes Personnel: Eleanor McEvoy (vocals, guitar). Eleanor McEvoy is an impressive debut album from McEvoy, proving that she is not only capable of fusing contemporary folk and celtic music, but that she's a singer-songwriter with a graceful, individual voice. Both the music and the songs have a quietly powerful beauty, which makes it no wonder that the album helped McEvoy win the Irish Record Industry Award for Best New Artist. ~ Thom Owens Tracks: 1. finding myself lost again. 2. only a woman's heart 3. apologies 4. boundries of your mind 5. for you 6. go now 7. it's mine 8. not quite love 9. promises to keep 10. music of it all 11. leave her now 12. breathing hop 13. stray thoughts

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute classic!, November 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Eleanor McEvoy (Audio CD)
Her first album, the voice is young, but the lyrics are so mature, and the musicallity undeniable. She is a truely amazing artist. I've seen her live and she switches between electric guitar, piano, violin she is just amazing.Songs like "Go Now" "Only a Woman's Heart" (a classic here in Ireland) and The brilliant pop song "It's Mine", will send your heart soaring into the air as you put it on your stereo! She gets serious on "Apologise" where she tackles the whole mine field of domestic violence, but in a very constructive way. The other albums are great too, still, this has a special place in my heart because it's her first. Incidently, she's breathtaking live..... if you can catch her.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply incredible, April 7, 2004

This review is from: Eleanor McEvoy (Audio CD)
I buy a lot of music, and I don't always know anything about an artist before I buy... once in awhile I will just nab something off the discount/used rack because I get a good vibe off the packaging... from the smile on the artist's face... intangible stuff.

Sometimes I find that I've bought absolute, forgettable crap this way... and sometimes I strike gold. This album is in the latter category by astronomical measures; lyrically, musically, production, soul, wit, heart... it's total goosebumps. It is one of my favorite albums... ever. I don't have the remastered version with the extra cuts... I have the original.

If you are wowed by the best of the best in terms of songwriting, buy one or the other... you will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is an excellent production, March 4, 1999

I bought this record, without knowing to much about McEvoy. I just know her song "only a woman". I strongly recommend this album because of the intelligent lyrics and nice melodies. I think she is an artist with talent and future.
