In World War Two the United States of America was a totally different universe. A small group of women pilots were determined to do their bit for the war effort. With considerable lobbying and the support of Eleanor Roosevelt the Women Airforce Service Pilots eventually took over necessary and dangerous non-combatant flying roles. During the 1940's air travel was hazardous enough that the Army Air Force awarded a medal for making just 25 flights! The WASP flew ferry missions (losing radio contact and relying on navigational skills once the runway vanished behind her) and the even more dangerous target tow operations--anti-aircraft guns fired at a canvas sleeve towed behind an aircraft. Paul Tibbets prefered WASP to fly his Green Hornet Lines missions supporting the atomic bombing group because the female pilots didn't "get lost" or "develop engine troubles" making logistics runs.

The Fifinella patch on the flight jacket was designed by the Walt Disney Studios especially for the 1100 women pilots and is reproduced in 1:6-th scale. The short boots and cotton fight suit complete the outfit.

This is my favorite Eleanor's Girl product. The figure is better-articulated than Barbie and the clothing is authentic. In World War Two flight gear wasn't all that fancy.
