Book Description

The field of electrets has developed rapidly with an increasing number of new materials, methods for investigating charge-storage phenomena, and the development of creative and exciting applications. This third edition of Electrets, printed in two volumes, documents the significant contributions to the knowledge and understanding of the field. Vol. 1: Reprint of the 1987 second edition with updates and corrections. This volume covers all the basics plus the important research from 1920 to 1987. Vol. 2: Six chapters on the hot topics in electrets providing a digest of the significant progress in electret research over the 11 years since the 1987 publication of the second edition. This compendium is based on special issues of the IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, with further extensive updates by each contributor. Although there have been monographs and proceedings of conferences published on this topic, there had been no cohesive treatment of the entire field of electrets until the original publication of Dr. Sessler's seminal work, Electrets, first edition. Now he and his colleagues, plus younger colleagues who bring a fresh perspective, continue to contribute and update the series by offering this latest comprehensive survey of noteworthy developments in the field of electrets.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Although there have been monographs and proceedings of conferences published on this topic, there had been no cohesive treatment of the entire field of electrets until the original publication of Dr. Sessler's seminal work, Electrets, first editon. Now he and his colleagues, plus younger colleagues who bring a fresh perspective, continue to contribute and update the series by offering this latest comprehensive survey of noteworthy develpments in the field of electrets.

We hope Electrets, 3rd edition, printed in two volumes, will continue the proud tradition of the former editions and be a commendable contribution to the literature of the field.

From the Author

The previous editions of this book have served as a source of information and reference for many workers in the field of electret research. Demand in the book still continues since much of the contents are of a fundamental nature and therefore of current and future interest.

For this reason, it was decided to publish Electrets again in two volumes. This third edition of Electrets comprises a first volume which is essentially a corrected reprint of the second edition of the book, and a second volume, edited by Reimund Gerhard-Multhaupt. This second volume comprises revised and updated articles from the 1996 and 1997 Digest issues of the IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation. It is hoped that Electrets in this new format will be useful to the scientific and technical community interested in charge and polarization phenomena in dielectrics. (G. M. Sessler, Editor)

3.0 out of 5 stars A present for my dad, August 18, 2010
This review is from: Electrets [3rd Edition] (in Two Volumes): Volume 1 (Paperback)
Bought for my dad because he is a great biophysicist. He enjoys it. Not too much on his most interesting topic -- bioelectrets -- but anyway it is a great source of information for him.
