This is just a completely infectious, bluesy, soulful, sublimely drunk rock n' roll album. Beyond the sweet guitar riffs and solos and the soulful melancholy vocals is a very real heart and spirit that most bands at the time lacked. Even the most mundane love song became something special when these guys play it. You think "yeah, this guy has definitely been there" when the songs turn to heartbreak. It's also just a really good, really rocking album from a band that should have made it big and survived the `90s intact. Sadly, we all know how that turned out.
If you're a fan of the late `80s and early `90s hard rock sound, this album is a must-have. I'd also recommend Electric Angels to just about anyone who enjoys a good rock n' roll album. It's impossible to listen to this album without wanting to sing/nod/air guitar/dance/have a good time. If you like what you hear (and you will), you may also want to check out Kill for Thrills' Dynamite From Nightmareland and the self-titled Royal Court of China album, both of which have a similar vibe.
Edition Notes: Electric Angels was reissued by Wounded Bird in 2009. Unlike most Wounded Bird releases, this one sounds like it may have been remastered.Read more ›
Musically speaking, Electric Angels were a straight-forward melodic rock band. They fit closer to the Rolling Stones or Aerosmith, than to what was popular during their heyday. The biggest treat with this record is, in my own opinion, the stellar song writing of Jonathan Daniel. This guy had a way with the words, and with lines like, "I Never Really Loved You, I Just Drank To Much," and "Crime Don't Pay, But It Has To Pay More Than The Minimum Wage," he gave me a good laugh. I mean, who writes lyrics like that anymore? While the entire album is enjoyable, my favorite tracks from the record were "Head Above Water," "The Drinking Song," "Rattlesnake Kisses," and "I Live In The City."
This album was long out of print until Wounded Bird reissued it in 2009. Most times when Wounded Bird reissue albums they put nothing extra in them at all. However, this record does seem to be louder than the original copy I have; so maybe they did remaster this album. Either way it's a great record the whole way through.
This band used to be Candy who also released a classic album with Gilby Clarke on guitar! BUT THIS HAS RYAN ROXIE ON IT WHO IS A GENIUS AND COOL GUY!!!!!! Shane is a great singer and J. Daniel on bass and lyrics!!! You need to check this out!!!!!When I was younger! My mates and me would listen and smoke/drink to this album!!!! Essential listening! !!!!!!!

This is one of the best albums/cd's to come out of the end of the 80's style rock. This album if released today would probably be a huge hit. Read morePublished on September 27, 2013 by Jason Fields
