One of my best purchases ever! This case will provide excellent protection for your instrument. It is not simply a padded bag which flops over with nothing in it, but rather more of a hybrid hard / soft case. It has a surrounding "frame" of much more rigid material laminated to high density padding, then a very soft interior. Despite all that protection, it is exceptionally light and has a very durable exterior. It is also much more compact than many cases, especially hard cases, and fits with my 1x12 cab, amp, gig bag etc in my trunk out of sight.

The backpack straps are comfortable and just plain work. The carry handle seems perfectly placed for ideal balance with any of my basses. I can confirm it fits 4 and 5 string Jazz and Precision basses just fine. The pockets are large, and the largest fits my Genz Benz Shuttle 6 amp head easily.

Is it perfect? Well, I'm of the mind that nothing is. But it is pretty darn close, especially for the money. It'd be closer to perfect if the outer pockets had just a touch of padding (when carrying a micro head in it), but that would add bulk and limit the capacity of the pockets.

I'm ordering another as I write this.

I grabbed this bag up when the price dropped to $87 on Amazon, which I think is a steal of a deal for what I think is a really high-high quality product. It is slimmer than I thought it would be, which is a plus for fitting behind the seats in my car when going to band practice. The backpack straps are pretty comfortable.

I didn't like the interior 'plush' material as much as I liked the Levy's EM8S, but the Protec bag has a neck support, which in the end is probably better for the bass. The bag fits a Fender Highway One 4-String Jazz Bass perfectly, even with the strap still on.

All in all, this is a pretty good gigbag and I'm pretty happy with the purchase. The current price isn't bad, but keep a lookout for when it drops again.

This is overall a very good case, and i think the best value for money. the only reason I didn't rank 5* is unlike its competitors (MONO, Reunion blues...) it's NOT flight intended and not tested for that matter (I've asked ProTec and they said it's not recommended). ProTec - why don't go all the way with this product??
Also the shoulder straps are enforced by stitches only. Makes me wonder how long they'll last..

Pros:
Looks very good
A LOT of storage space! 2 big pockets in the bottom and one good size for small stuff at to top.
The bottom outer pocket has an organized space for pens, picks etc..
Very good protection for your guitar
Good rubber squares for putting on the floor
Water resistant
Good back straps and a strap to hold them tight when not is use (love it!)

Cons:
Not intended for flights
A bit heavy (just a bit - not a real issue)
The handles are two thin and you need two bind them with the scotch every time (annoying)
The movable neck cushion can't go all the way up (not even close)
The shoulder straps are only stitched. I'd had been happier to see an enforcement of nits/screws like MONO have.

I've owned many brands of bass gig bags. Like all of us, I want to travel light and with confidence that my prized basses will be safe and protected.

I love the Road Runner deluxe bass gig bag and I owned a few of them. Over the years, the zippers broke, etc. When I went to buy another one, they were out of stock and I saw the PROTEC CONTEGO PRO PAC BASS GUITAR CASE for around $132 bucks with free shipping.

I ended up buying it for a few reasons - The look, the material, the MANY pockets, the heavy duty handles, and the MUST for me was the back pack straps.

When I got the PROTEC CONTEGO PRO PAC BASS GUITAR CASE, my expectations were exceeded. The material is heavy duty, as are the over sized zippers. Lots of attention to detail went into the design like the rubber coated zippers, etc.

I LOVE this bass gig bag and I am now a lifelong PROTEC customer. This bag rules.

Decades ago I remember flimsy gig bags and hardshell cases. The light-duty gig bags had their place, but I always went with the additional protection of hardshell cases. The problem with hardshell cases was their weight and bulk, and they could easily damage walls and furniture if you were clumsy.

Hardshell cases are lighter these days, but I prefer softshell cases over hardshells or gig bags. Softshells tend to be lighter and less bulky than hardshells, and are gentler on objects when collisions occur. The Protec Contego is a very good softshell. It is less than half the price of the other softshell cases I own (Mono M80 and Portabag). It must be mentioned that it is slimmer than those others, and seems flimsier. So, I would never use this case for airline travel, and would hesitate to use it if I relied on roadies to move my gear. That said, even though I gig nearly every week, I move my own instruments in my own vehicle, always with care, and this case seems more than adequate. I've only been using it for four months, but I see no signs of weakness or wear.

I deducted one star because the case is not as sturdy as the more expensive softshells (my only caveat so far), but awarded an extra star for the excellent price.
