4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Else Like It!, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Electric Enigma: The VLF Recordings of Stephen P. McGreevy (Audio CD)
I searched this out after hearing a piece on NPR about Mr McGreevy: who traveled far North in Canada and hooked up some equipment of his own design, which utilized miles of existing barbed-wire fences as huge antennas to pick up the faint Very Low Frequency sounds of the aurora borealis (northern lights). Solar winds, distant lightning, and other atmospheric phenomena are heard here for the first time.

As both an audio enthusiast, and a space aficionado, I was immediately drawn to the strange soothing "music" - whirs, clicks, static, whistles...and the fact that someone had the thought in their head to even try such a thing (or even the fact that a record company had thought to release it)!

Granted, this is not for the casual listener. But it is marvelously unique, and a rewarding listening experience in a rather cosmic sort of way.
