Every house I have lived in since a kid has had a fireplace and/or a wood burning stove. Nothing is better in the winter. When I got my current house, It unfortunately had them renovated out a number of years ago. For the past couple of winters I have had my eye on these electric stoves, mainly hoping price would drop some, and hesitant to buy because they are electric, how real could they be. Well, this year was the year, and I bought this model. They have really dropped in price over two years. It is a nice little unit, cast iron body with solid plastic legs. The unit itself stays cool, and the blower at the bottom of the stove blows the heat out into the room. The effect is really nice, more realistic than I would imagine. I do miss the Pop and Crackle of a real fire, but hey, this is good, I don't have to clean the ashes. Nice for a living room or a den, it will put out fair hear, but not a huge amount. rates up to 400 sq ft, and that is about it's limit. Their are bigger models available as well, but this is nice for one room. Check it out, most major hardware stores carry similar products, and Amazon's rates are competative as well. So add a spark to any room with this.

In my previous house I had a fireplace in which I installed a Dimplex fireplace insert. It was great. When I moved to this house with no fireplace I immediately thought I'd buy a dimplex electric stove, but this one came on sale for $80 at a local box store. I could not believe how much better it is than the Dimplex, which I thought was great itself. Here are the features you won't find in any of the Dimplex products (at least that I've seen).

* Variable flame control. This is nice so that it can be brighter in the day and less bright in the evening.

* Thermostat. This is something the I really missed. With the Dimplex you have two settings--low or high. This can be set to a certain amount of heat for the room and will cycle on and off to maintain the heat.

The flame appearance is as good as the Dimplex. Neither is as good as a real fire, but both are, in my opinion, as good as a gas log and way easier to install.

The quality if the same as Dimplex. It looks like a small cast iron stove, but it weighs a lot less.

It's also much less expensive than a similarly-sized Dimplex. I believe the NewAir products are similar to this in features and quality and I'd recommend them. I like the Dimplex products, but they don't have the features or value this has.

Whatever you end up with, as long as you don't expect an exact duplication of a wood fire, you will be thrilled. Everyone who isn't familiar with these contraptions is afraid to put their hand inside for fear of getting burned, it's that much like a real flame.

All you have to do to install it is unbox it, screw on the legs, and plug it in and it then looks as good as a gas fire. I intend to put an electric outlet directly behind my stove so that you can't see a cord.

Another great this is, in the summer you can put store it away and get the space back. Then, when winter comes around, it's almost like getting the stove new all over again.

Plug this in, and you have a nice fireplace effect without having to run any chimney. It is compact (23" W x 17.5" H x 10" D) and can fit almost anywhere you need a little extra heat. I have this in my front room on the first floor to boost the heat without having to turn up the main furnace and make the upstairs hot. It is 4500btu and can heat up to 400 square feet, and I got it for 80 bucks on sale.

Sure, there are smaller, more powerful units for 10-15 bucks cheaper than this, but you do not get the decorative effect, nor the stability that this unit has. I have two small kittens that like to do their best "Jackie Chan" moves, bouncing off the walls and running sideways on furniture. They can't tip this over and break it. Worth looking into this unit if you want that extra pop for a room.

This product caught my eyes the minute I walked into Home Depot because of the price and the quality of the style.
Got it for $26, great quality and my kids love it!
Within minutes you could feel the room starts warming. Worth the money! The fire does look real, my kids
didn't want to touch it even myself as the other rating had describe. Great product!

I was excited to receive this, at first. It's a cute little stove, but there is no way to heat without the fan running [which I know makes a fireplace more efficient, but....]. Then, I thought: "Well, I'll just use it for the ambiance and run a separate heater." But I found it to be too noisy even with the heat off. The noise may seem subtle to some, but if you are the least bit sensitive to noise, it could really grate on you. It's such a disappointment because I really like the looks of it; but, if I had purchased this, I would be returning it.
