Book Description

Guitar Player Basic Library July 1, 1989
The original 1984 edition of this title presented a definitive approach to the theory, practice and performance of electric bass guitar. As such, it gained wide recognition and acceptance as the best single-volume work in its field. Now, in response to all the new developments in bass technique and application, GPI has put together a revised and updated edition of this invaluable book. Included in this comprehensive new volume are the most up-to-date instructional columns, private lessons, and hard-to-find features from GPI Special Edition: Bass Player magazine. Also featured are important tips and lessons from the foremost artists in the field - Jeff Berlin, Carol Kaye, Nathan East, Stanley Clarke, Billy Sheehan, Jimmy Haslip, Bunny Brunel, and others - who take the reader all the way from choosing an instrument to reading, music theory, practicing, improving technique, and soloing. Plus a new section on bass repair, maintenance, and modification.

5.0 out of 5 stars Electric Bass Guitar, August 28, 2000
By
Matt Strickland (Los Angeles, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electric Bass Guitar (Guitar Player Basic Library) (Paperback)
This book is very helpful and it covers many different styles of playing and different techiniques such as the "in and out" technique which makes playing sixteen notes eaiser. It covers slapping, and just basic right hand technique. It also has a whole chapter on soloing and explains basslines and turnaround and chords. The only problem is that there is no tablature,so you have to learn to read music, which there is a chapter on. I really recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tips and tricks, not for the beginner, September 23, 2005

This review is from: Electric Bass Guitar (Guitar Player Basic Library) (Paperback)
This book is a collection of articles from Guitar and Bass Player's magazines. Because of this format it lacks am amount of cohesiveness that some people might be looking for in an instructional book. The articles themselves are well-written and interesting, with diagrams and anecdotes. It seem to be a good book for someone who has already learned the basics and wants to refine styles, learn new tricks, and get that extra insight into the bass guitar. Good for the intermediate player, I would think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview., January 1, 2010

This review is from: Electric Bass Guitar (Guitar Player Basic Library) (Paperback)
This book, written in 1984 by Guitar Player magazine, is an excellent overview of electric bass guitar. This book has all the tools any beginning or intermediate bassist could want. The recommended reading sections will also give you lists of other excellent books. I also play upright bass and the "target pracice" segment is really helpful. Tips on practicing, how to find a great teacher, how to read chord charts and notes, slap and pop, etc... Tons of great ideas. Highly recommended.
