With over 450 color photographs, this book presents a brilliant review of electric guitars from their early years in the mid-20th century to the present day. A broad range of instruments are illustrated, produced by companies both large and small, including Fender, Gibson, Guild, Ampeg, and Ibanez. Values for the instruments presented are included in the captions.

This review is from: Electric Guitars (A Schiffer reference book for collectors) (Hardcover)
A beautiful book: nice and sharp pictures, really something for collectors, but is it a 'reference book'? What do YOU think when you read that phrase: 'a reference book for collectors'? What I expected was an overview of the many important variations of electric guitars that have been on the market since say the 1950s. So Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker, Danelectro, Gretsch and other great American brands should be in it plus the wonderful Japanese instruments that played such an important role since the 1980s. Also one would expect information about the used woods and other important parts of the instruments. "It is the intention of this author to familiarize the reader with the major and not-so-major manufacturers and their products". But what do we get? A (rather arbitrary) selection of indeed a great many brands, but then the author seems to pick many odd examples and at the same time a lot of the catalogue is omitted. In my opinion there are much better reference books and this one seems quite superfluous. One wonders how mr Goudy ever got this published since I can't imagine at what kind of reader it is aimed: on the one hand far too specific on the other very incomplete.
