5.0 out of 5 stars One of Jimi's Best, March 13, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Electric Ladyland (2 Vinyl) (Vinyl)
I have owned the original Reprise release for many years until it got to a point to where I could not listen to the vinyl. The 2 vinyl version is the best way to hear Jimi Hendrix's guitar work and his vision of each song on the album.
I purchased the CD version and it is alright, but lacks the true distortion and the sound effects going from one speaker to another.
If you can get the vinyl version, GRAB IT1 you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Analog remaster is different but still good, April 1, 2010
By
This review is from: Electric Ladyland (2 Vinyl) (Vinyl)
The cover sticker promises an all-analog remaster by Jimi's original engineer (Eddie Kramer). It's two nice slabs of 180g vinyl and probably about the only way you can get a copy of Electric Ladyland in analog sound with no pops or crackles. This does have a bright clear sound, and I noticed a lot of detail I never noticed on my old Reprise vinyl copy. Still, this new version doesn't top the original -- analog or not, it's actually a bit too bright-sounding. I'm thinking Eddie Kramer at his age has likely lost some high end on his hearing, and so the new master seems to compensate by bringing out that sound -- it's not remixed, but somehow it accents the high end more. But as a Hendrix nut, I view this as an interesting "retake" -- a new way to hear an old favorite album. I know I'll go back to my Reprise copy more than this one, but I'm glad to have this one.

I just got it! I have been waiting this moment for over 30 years! Yes, the all analog mastering has it all, and pressing is excellent. The sound is from another planet than in CD. Just feel the magic of Jimi Hendrix on vinyl!

Regards, Hendrix for ever...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best sounding vinyl I own, July 9, 2011
This review is from: Electric Ladyland (2 Vinyl) (Vinyl)
At first I picked up the CD's of Axis and Ladyland and the vinyl of Experienced. After hearing how much better the vinyl sounds I returned the CDs for the vinyl copies. Really, these are the best sounding vinyl albums I own! A tremendous pressing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, April 2, 2011

Jimi's last studio album is stunning, and the sound quality of the vinyl is unbelievable. Everything on it sounds fantastic. The 2 Vinyl discs come in a nice gatefold jacket with plastic inner sleeves and an album-sized leaflet with photos, showing te letters Jimi wrote describing how he wanted the cover to look. He made it very clear, so it's kind of annoying they didn't use the photo he wanted for the cover. Also includes his "Letter to the Room Full of Mirrors", which is trippy and amazing. An awesome record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jimmie!, June 28, 2010

This album "Electric Ladyland" I listen to with headphones on while everyone is sleeping at night. I am one of those people who like to pretend that I am playing the instruments while I listen to music, so I sit in a chair, put the headphones on, crank the music, and hit it baby! I'm so exhausted when the album is over, that I go to sleep immediately. Who needs drugs to sleep, just listen to the right music. Rock on Hendrix!

What can you say about the album content that hasn't been said already. I found this pressing to be excellent. It has a very quiet background. The mix is very comparable to the original. I would buy it again.

Lost my original vinyl a long time ago, but still remember the songs that tracked well. There were many, especially toward the inner groove that were always a bit distorted even with the high end cartridge I was (and still am) using. This new vinyl sounds excellent and the inner tracks shine. Voodoo Child (slight return) is far superior to any version I've heard before.
Waiting a bit for the right time to play side 3...

I wish I could give it a few more stars than just five. Thank god the Hendrix estate put this out on LP again as my old Reprise version has long since worn thin (bought way back in the early 1970's). "E.L." is Jimi's best LP I think.Every cut on the LP is a winner. I compared this rendition to my CD (Started both at about the same time and kept punching the buttons to switch to differant formats on my amp) This Vinyl LP sounds flawless on a good stereo system/turntable, and makes the CD seem to lack charector--sounds a little tinnie in comparison to the record. The LP is almost multi-dimensional) I am very happy with it. Thank you Hendrix Family and Amazon!
