5.0 out of 5 stars Electric Lucifer - Finally Available on CD!, June 1, 2007
This review is from: The Electric Lucifer (Audio CD)
Like many people who have recently discovered the music of Bruce Haack, I first learned about Haack after watching the "Haack: The King of Techno" documentary on the Documentary Channel. As a keyboard player myself and someone who has an interest in vintage synthesizer and electronic music technology, the documentary really peaked my interest in Bruce Haack. As such, I've recently bought a number of his albums on CD, although as I've learned, building up a collection of Haack's albums isn't the easiest thing to do, since a majority of his albums are available only as Japanese import CDs and not always readily stocked by US online retailers. When I started seeking out Haack's albums a couple of months ago, I was disappointed to find that "Electric Lucifer" had never been released on CD. However, I was pleasantly surprised to learn shortly thereafter that the album was, in fact, going to be released on CD, so I immediately placed my pre-order through Amazon and received the CD yesterday.

Although I had already heard a few of the "Electric Lucifer" tracks on the "Hush Little Robot" compilation CD, it was great to be able to listen to the original album in its entirety. The record seems to have been touted as somewhat of a concept album where "Powerlove" conquers all evil, although I personally wasn't able to discern any type of distinct storyline throughout the album. Nonetheless, the album is full of original, Haack-esque electronica, which was my main draw to Haack's works in the first place. In terms of the album's electronic music aspect, I find the opening track, "Electric to me Turn", to be one of the most interesting tracks on the albums. Lyrically speaking, I think "Word Game" is a very clever track. As a bonus, this CD also includes a 1970 radio interview with Bruce Haack, a previously unreleased alternate version of "Electric to me Turn", and on top of that, very interesting and extensive liner notes.

For anyone interested in the works of Bruce Haack, I'd highly recommend this album. Kudos to the Omni Recording Corporation for remastering and re-releasing this gem!

4.0 out of 5 stars Electronic music by a real eccentric, May 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Kind of unique musical artifact. Spacey electronic folky head music on home-made synths... pseudo-Biblical overtures, sympathy for the devil, high quality, general weirdness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow- Wow WOW!!! Moog psyche heaven!, October 30, 2010
This review is from: The Electric Lucifer (Audio CD)
Ive been on a roll lately with discovering great "new" music other wise known as "old long lost classics"- first there was The Zodiac cosmic sounds cd(RARE OOP AND ABOUT 60$ USED)- a moog inspired mix of astrological poetry and 60s psychedelia and i thought that nothing would top it until i stumbled across this album! Maybe im being overly generous with my 5 stars lately but this one is another faultless winner! Take some moody blues- some early moog and modular synths- kraftwerk - and haack's own homemade synths then combine with a drug fueled concept album that uses some of the first vocoder vocals- unique takes on woodstock era flower power sentiments and a kind of manic mix of eastern religion and christianity and the result is Haacks masterpiece The electric lucifer! There are songs on here that are so far ahead of their time that they sound like something youd hear today on warp or local underground college station! If you like bands like the united states of america -broadcast- boards of canada- kraftwerk- or the more weirder side of the moody blues and early pink floyd than get this now- as soon as i saw the cover i knew this would be good but i didnt expect a one of a kind classic that hasnt left my cd player in days. Its hard to describe but it veers from sound collage to sunshine pyschedelia- to menacing electronic pop- its catchy but not in the simple way and i find it impossible to find any faults even when the material occassionaly gets a tad cheesy!(just a bit) Great lyrics crazy arrangements and a totally unique artist! One of my favorite unknown forgotten albums that deserves more recognition that the liner notes clearly imply! PS great liner notes and the bonus material is really interesting- interviews and some performances mixed off afew live radio shows from the era!
