Product Description

Pattern Name: Door Stike

Remotely unlock your door from anywhere in your home or business with this electric door strike. It works with any door strike compatible keypad, alarm system, or intercom system with a 12V DC output. It is also compatible with the SVAT VIS300-7M2, and the Defender GK300-7M2 video intercoms, and allows you to remotely unlock the door for your visitors. This electric strike will replace your existing strike plate with a mechanism that will only unlock your door when you press the unlock button on your intercom. When used in conjunction with the SVAT or Defender compatible intercom systems, you can verify who is visiting and press the unlock button on the monitor to let them in.

This door strike will make a slight clicking noise when the unlock button is pressed, which lets visitors know they can enter. The door will automatically lock again after 5-10 seconds to ensure your security. You can open the door at all times from the inside, and you can still use your key to unlock or lock the door. This door strike is fail-locked, which ensures that the door will stay locked from the outside even if power is lost.

Generally, the more instructions the better, so the comments regarding sparseness of direction are appropriate. But, given some thought, it works out. This electric strike was purchased to allow our adult handicapped son to grant access to an entry door for attending medical/assistance staff. The device has a relatively robust feel and ultimately was ok to installed, once you figured out which of the three/four sets of dimensions to use from the install sheet (no electrical hook-up instructions, but, you almost can't break it). It works well and has been revolutionary, reducing the workload for the other adults in the house. Self-installed system cost was ~1/9th the quote from a local shop. Would definitely buy another, if needed. Dropped a star solely because of the install sheet including other devices and no electrical hook-up directions.

this door strik could not have a better use, we installed the divice on an entry door for a handicap home for easy access. the home owner is a double amputee and has limited access to open his front door from his bed,the vidio door phone allowes him to see who is at his door, at that point he can press his entry botten that activates his striker to allow entry to his home without leaving his bedside.

As one can see in the picture, there is very little room between the mounting screws and the body of the strike. Once you chisel out the door jam to recess this thing in, you have less than 1/4" to put the crew into the wood edge. No one in the right mind would secure anything less than 1/4" from the edge of a piece of wood, much less a door strike, which another reviewer says that it takes an excessive amount of force to open the strike, which I kind of agree with.
What you do not see in the picture is that the wiring port enters from the bottom edge (or top edge, depending on how you orient the strike) about 1.25" from the strike edge. That means you cannot put in a long screw into the jam to kind of solve the problem I described above, assuming your door jam is even deep enough. You are limited to an 1" screw placed 1/4" from the edge of the piece of wood in the door jam. That is the most idiotic design I have ever seen.
What all Rutherford Control has to do was to make the mounting plate another inch+ longer. I suppose they want to save the 2 cent worth of metal and the cost of enlarging the shipping box. A major flaw on what would have been a reasonably decent product.

Didn't realize how little space is available between the screw holes and lock body. Need to be extra careful not to carve out too much wood when installing. Design should have a taller strike plate to give screws holes some space to secure in jamb.

The internal wires were too light and one was damaged, We were able to repair it but without some very tight soldering it would not have functioned.

Extremely solid build and clean, professional look. It literally took me 5 minutes to install as a replacement. I already had the wires and transformer from the previous door strike so I plugged the wires in and screwed it into place - works perfectly. If you are installing this fresh, it is important that you buy the transformer sold separately.
