Well the flies here in Afghanistan are plentiful and flat out annoying. They aren't like your standard US house fly that will just buzz around you looking for food. These stupid Afghan flies like to fly right into you, often landing on your eye, lip, etc. We have some sticky traps that are just plain useless, so I decided to try something else. The electronic fly swatter works as advertised! It's like having a bug light in the palm of your hands! These stupid flies are now met with a solid *ZAP* and down they go.....

Like in Grand Sand Scorpion's review, I have two electric fly swatters and this one is considerably better than the other. The rechargeable feature is very nice. It's more sturdy than the other swatter, too. But most importantly, it's more effective -- the other swatter is less likely to kill any fly I manage to hit. It's not always easy because you're swatting them in the air rather than when they land (you'll break your swatter that way), but eventually, with some persistence, I get my quota. Thing is, it's extremely satisfying and fun in a twisted way. I'm getting better at fly-batting and while I'm still in the amateur leagues, I'll be going pro soon enough. :)

At first I was afraid when it came in Asian wrapping, but was able to weed threw the poor instructions.
It came charged but I still charged it 9 hrs any way.
I live on long island and we have ocean, streams and lakes all around us, so I have bugs I can not tell you what the are.
I dont like to kill the spiders in the basement because they help with eliminating the other bugs and they too have started to take over. They were the first test, big flys and wasps out by the garage the next, and moths Mosquitos was the last at night. This unit passed all with flying colors. No pun intended. It also has a blue light/flashlight when the unit is on and the moths just fly right into it. For under ten dollars I am amazed at how good it is. I don't know how long it will hold up, but for under $10 hey, it's like the price of a can or two of bug spray with out the fumes. So I would buy more even if it only last a few weeks. But it doesn't seem too flimsy. A little in the neck part but that might just be the feel from the two different materials.
And yes. The bugs , smack, crackle and pop with a flash of blue sparks when they hit. Bigger bugs need a longer hold on the trigger button or they will come out of the stun. It's a nack you pick up soon after using it with what works best.

We got this to deal with the flies in our home, and it's been working great. The trick is to gently swing it about a foot above the fly - the fly will go up into it, they're not that bright.

The packaging included no English instructions - the switch goes three ways, as far as we can tell UP is light + zapper, middle is off, DOWN is zapper only. Hold the red button, wait a moment, and continue holding it while swinging at the bugs.

To charge it you'll need a power strip or extension cable, since the plug comes out of the handle at the bottom, and the zapper is too heavy to stay in a normal outlet that way. However the charged life is very long, we've only charged it once in weeks.

I agree with the reviewers that have mentioned the scary packaging and horrid Chinese -> Engrish instructions. Mine arrived very well-packaged in a long cardboard box, but the item itself is in a Mylar bag with the previously mentioned Engrish instructions. Really, though, you just need to glean the following: The unit is charged from the factory, but should be "topped up" for four hours before use.

I purchased this bug murdering device for my wife, since she is both disturbingly attractive to stinging insects, and disturbingly allergic to their stings. Our back yard has a landscape timber retaining-wall that has become home to yellow jackets in past years, and, although I removed them last year, I wanted her to have some form of defense against them should they come back or any strays venture around her (She would never provoke them in this way, but it was my thinking, nonetheless). So far, the only yellow jacket to come near (a queen!) gave us our first opportunity to test it out! Keeping in mind that this device was meant to kill mosquitos, not larger, denser bugs, I gave the yellow-jacket a swat from underneath and heard and saw a satisfying SNAP! that launched the bug skyward. The bug came back down and hit the ground, but was still quite dangerous, though dazed. I covered the bug with the swatter and pressed the red button for a second, producing several large zaps and further angering the bug. It wasn't until I held the button down for 3 or so seconds that the insect looked remotely neutralized. When it tried to sting the swatter, the stinger was vaporized. Now that made my wife happy. She admits that she would still NEVER try to use this on a stinging insect, since she would likely end up in the E.R. anyway.

Purchased this just over 3 months ago and one fine day it just wouldn't zap the fly buzzing around me.. My first thought was that I need to charge the battery. Tried that, next day.. Still no luck! The Electric Swatter WAS DEAD!!! or should I say.. "zapped"!. The product had gone bad in just over 3 months and I had used it twice a week if not less.

Here is the good part though:
I decided to return the item and realized that amazon offers a 30 Day return policy. So I took a chance and emailed the seller directly and honestly did not expect anything positive. To my surprise , they responded to me and asked me a few questions on the product to troubleshoot. After about 2 emails they informed me that even though it was over 30 days , they are going to send me a replacement unit. This is the real meaning of "customer service"! These guys had no obligation towards helping me out and could have simply apologized and thats that.

Here is the bottom line:
The product is average and wish it lasted me longer (However I have a brand new replacement). The Customer service is outstanding and It makes up for the product. I would definitely purchase products from these guys without thinking twice. They really go out of their way to make sure the customer is satisfied and happy.

Thanks again guys!
