4.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to share this with you so much! KSM '60-'00 RIP
Please just a moment of your time while I explain: I lost my sister on 9/24 of this year. She was a great inspiration to me in many ways, but especially musically. She turned me on to Bad Company at an early age & Rodgers has always been my favorite rock vocalist. I received this in the mail the week that my sister passed away and only got to listen to it when I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as "Now" but has it's moments
This CD starts out very promising with 4 great tracks. But from there it starts to slide downhill, with only a few great moments. "Love Rains" is ruined by some female singer who appears to be trying to hard, and comes across about as soulful as Cher. The song "Drifters" is evidently the single, which is a colossal error in judgement, since...

Please just a moment of your time while I explain: I lost my sister on 9/24 of this year. She was a great inspiration to me in many ways, but especially musically. She turned me on to Bad Company at an early age & Rodgers has always been my favorite rock vocalist. I received this in the mail the week that my sister passed away and only got to listen to it when I returned from Montreal where she died. I have shed many a tear listening to this CD; not just for the memories it has prompted but for its overall beauty. The depth & atmosphere of "Over You" with its flute and sing-along chorus, the mournful anthem of "Freedom", the bouncy tease of "Walking Tall"; "Jasmine Flower", "Drifters", "Find A Way", "Conquistadora" are all reasons why I love Paul Rodgers & why he is a legend & still performing today & quite magnificently so as evidenced by the recent Bad Company reunion tour in which he was CLEARLY the star! His sense of melody and that SOUL in his voice is why I love him. I suppose I shall always remember this album in a melancholy way and always wish I could've shared it with Kim; she would be proud. God Bless you Kimby & Paul. Love, Ste' Bo'

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock 'N' Blues Masterpiece, March 4, 2001

Thank God not all older rock & rollers sell out and attempt to sing the type of music that happens to be on the charts for that month. This Paul Rodgers outing is a breath of rock & roll fresh air. Unlike some in his league, Paul's voice is like fine wine - it has become better with age - and so has his musicianship and lyrical quality. I will be playing this one over and over again, along with all of my old Bad Company CDs. Paul has still got one of the greatest voices in rock & roll recorded history. He sings from the soul with fire, sensuality, love, hope, and passion.

What a comeback by the Great Man.Nice thumpin' intro then,China Blue, a powerful ballad.Over You & Drifters are 2 steady rockers but Freedom is my Fave song off this album - classic

Rodgers Blues/Ballad a la Bad Company era. Saw him touring this

album in Australia,2001. Best voice in Blues/Rock & this is a

neat collection of new material - Better than 1997's "Now" set.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Bad Company, May 1, 2008

For those who yearn for more of those classic 5 or 6 Bad Company albums I think this one almost hits the mark. If you really like Paul Rodgers vocals, he shines here and has good musicians (has used before) to back him up (his first solo album Cut Loose where he did everything is a bit ordinary, I think). A good mix of rock, ballad and in between tempo (just like most Bad Company albums were) is on display here. I dont think this album is inferior to the classics except that this type of music doesnt headline around the world and sell like it used to, but is a very worthy record to tack on to you Bad Company collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as "Now" but has it's moments, June 8, 2000

This CD starts out very promising with 4 great tracks. But from there it starts to slide downhill, with only a few great moments. "Love Rains" is ruined by some female singer who appears to be trying to hard, and comes across about as soulful as Cher. The song "Drifters" is evidently the single, which is a colossal error in judgement, since that is the worst track.

Well enough, bashing, this CD does contain some powerful moments, mostly on tracks like "Freedom" and "Deep Blue". The stand-out song is without a doubt "Find a Way", a ballad that would be very comfortable on Paul's '97 "NOW" album.

Many of the sounds on this CD are reminisent of Bad Company's Burning Sky era stuff. Most notably "Jasmine Flower" and the flute tinged "Over You".

So is this CD worth owning? The answer is yes, if you are a Paul Rodgers fan like myself. Much better than "Cut Loose", not quite as good as "Now".

Paul Rodgers never ceases to amaze,it's like he discovered the secret of eternal youth and never ending musical inspiration. His new album 'Electric',while not as heavy as 1997's 'Now',is another excursion into timeless rock'n'roll:Rodgers has a way of making it all count-he adds a veritable Midas touch to everything he sings, and all his instrumental and compositional skills.

4.0 out of 5 stars Never judge a CD by the cover art. This is FANTASTIC!, October 26, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Electric (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Paul Rodgers since the very first time I heard his voice sing in 1974. I was 10 years old then. I bought this Paul CD this week. I am absolutely stunned at how great this is. I mention the cover art because like The FIRM's debut album, It provides no clue and absolutely no justice to the quality of the music inside. I suppose that might be one of the sad reasons why there are iPODS surrounding the CD buying camps more and more. But, I love to buy CD's as I did Vinyl records. The complete cohesive package.
This CD is an excellent rock record. Paul Rodgers' voice is one of the great British soul/blues/rock voices of all time. It is soaring on this. It is a perfect companion to any Bad Co., FREE, ewt al cd you might have already.

The songs here are great vehicles for his voice. He is no poet. But, he is a melodicist with a good sense of emotional lyrics, a great band both here and on the road.

I highly recommend this CD if you enjoy any or all phases of Paul Rodgers as vocalist; FREE, Bad Company, The Firm, The Law, or as a Solo artist.

Also recommended is Muddy Waters' Blues by Paul. Stunning!
