BABY BOOMER CLASSICS-ELECTRIC SEVENTIES: This crankin' collection boasts an even dozen tracks of head shakin', Bic-flickin' rock and roll greatness sure to inspire hazy blacklight-infested memories. Marvel at I'M EIGHTEEN, shock pioneer Alice Cooper's ominous ode to growing up, and Dutch group Focus' weird and wired instru-"mental" HOCUS POCUS. Thrill to Leslie West's inhuman wail on Mountain's MISSISSIPPI QUEEN, and a pre-show biz Ozzy bleating his way through that slab o' SABB known as PARANOID. Folks, this ain't nothin' but a house party! Just ask Ann Arbor legends Brownsville Station, whose high school hijinx singalong SMOKIN' IN THE BOY'S ROOM has never been topped for sheer snotty exuberance. Warning: after chewing on career defining hits by Mott the Hoople, Edgar Winter, and Uriah Heep, you may suffer from flash backs about your early 70s muscle car with the crappy 8-track player!

I picked up this collection back in the late `80s and it still sounds great after all these years. Electric Seventies is an excellent 12-song collection of hard rock tunes from the 1970's. Some of the tunes here like "We're An American Band", "Black Magic Woman" (single version), "Blinded By The Light", "All The Young Dudes" and "Paranoid" continue to get played regularly on album rock radio and oldies stations while others like "Hocus Pocus" , "Easy Livin'", and "Smokin' In The Boys Room" you don't hear much anymore. Other great songs here include Edgar Winter Group's awesome instrumental and #1 hit "Frankenstein", Alice Cooper's first hit single "I'm Eighteen", Gregg Allman's solo hit "Midnight Rider", and the wicked three chord stomper that is Mountain's "Mississippi Queen". If you can find this, this is well worth the purchase, especially for the deeper cuts like "Hocus Pocus".

In the mid 1980s, I found a cassette in the bargain bin labeled "Electric Seventies." I was already familiar with "Paranoid" and "Black Magic Woman" but I was getting into classic guitar rock, and wanted to hear more.

That old cassette turned me on to a number of bands that remain favorites to this day. I recently dug out that old cassette, and decided to do an "Ebay" search. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this title was released on CD. Yes I have most of the albums that feature these songs, but it is nice to be able to pop in this CD, and hear the same songs in the same order from that old cassette, but in CD quality.

I believe there was a release of this CD in the 1980s under the "Warner" label, but the music on this CD is the same.
