5.0 out of 5 stars As real as it gets!, February 9, 2005

This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
Nehoc paints a vivid picture of what it was like to be a police officer in the "Belly of the Beast", the NYC Subway. His vignettes of the now defunct NYC Transit Police capture the gritty, hard edged, and often very funny aspects of policing. I would have liked to be there for some of the wild stories related by Trebor.

I enjoyed Nehoc's slick writing style and tongue-in-cheek humor. I can't wait for the movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Cop Book, March 20, 2005

Destroyer Veteran "TL" (Lansdale, Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
Nehoc not only captures the feel of NYC Transit Police work, he is able to show us what it was like and with an infectious humor that makes you laugh until you hurt. This is not a book to read in public or while drinking coffee. Nehoc's short vignettes are so addictive that you soon find that you've read twenty of them instead of the one or two you actually had time for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest Cop Stories I Have Ever Read, March 18, 2005
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
Growing up in NYC usually is synonomous with being a veteran subway rider..there is actually no other way to get around the 5 boroughs without them. I found this book to be extremely funny and it was amazing to see the subways from an "insider's" view! Having grown up around alot of NYC cops, I have always loved hearing their stories, and I guess most people feel that way from the success of police stories like "Cops" and "NYPD Blue". Unlike the above mentioned, Trebor Nehoc's stories are so funny that you will find yourself laughing out loud! Not too many books can make me do that! I think everyone who has ever ridden a subway should read this book, you may even see yourself or someone you know in some of the stories.....can't wait for a sequel!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, March 17, 2005
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
This book was hard to put down at bedtime. It has great stories that move fast, are funny and have great imagery. Trebor makes you feel like you are in the middle of the action with him. You can feel the emotions, the fun, the empathy the successes and the disappointments. This guy can write!

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed until I cried...and then I laughed some more!, December 28, 2004
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
You don't have to be a subway aficionado or even a fan of the New York City Police Department to enjoy this book. Everyone will get a kick out of the subterranean adventures of Officer Nehoc and his merry band of cops. These are the kind of stories that have "only in New York" stamped all over them. Read it and weep--with tears of laughter! Then tell all your friends to get their own copies because you'll want to read yours again and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars "The Electric Sewer" is a WINNER!, March 25, 2005
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
"The Electric Sewer by Trebor Nehoc is at once funny and poignant, and when you look beyond the veil of humor the reader is given a glimpse into the hectic and sometimes dangerous life of an NYC cop. Nehoc's conversational style makes this book easy to read. Its structure provides a reader the opportunity to mine for interesting vignettes, read front to back for time-sequenced continuity, or pick up and put down as time permits. "The Electric Sewer" is a perfect book for the public service commuter, receptionist, or anyone else who can steal fleeting minutes to take pleasure in reading. Knowledge of the New York City geography is not necessary to enjoy this book, but adds another level of understanding when present. I highly recommend "The Electric Sewer"

5.0 out of 5 stars Nehoc rode the Elephant!, March 22, 2005

This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
You can tell the difference between a wanna be and someone who's been there. It's obvious Nehoc has been there! Don't pick this book up if you're not ready to put it down because it's that type of book you don't want to close or come to the end of. Nehoc's humor and wit are out of step with the public relations of the NYPD and the Transit Police. It's our good fortune he retired so he could put this in print.
An enjoyable read with lots of laughs whether you are law enforcement or not! This book not only makes you smile, it makes your stomache hurt from laughing at people in corporations you know who live in Nehocs sewer!
I highly recommend this book for a spirit lifting read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read This Book When You're Alone!, May 1, 2005
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
My friend bought me this book as a gift not too long ago. Finally after about two weeks of listening to him rave about how good it is, coupled with the slight guilt of not having a chance to actually get around to reading it (after all it was a gift), I decided to bring it with me while on a visit to my doctor's office. Knowing how long it usually takes until my name is finally called, I started reading "The Electric Sewer." It didn't take long for me to make a complete fool of myself. First, it started with a slight chuckle, then a giggle, and then before I knew it, I was actually laughing out loud in the waiting room. Embarrassing to say the least, but of course quite worth it. Get this book, it's an absolute must. Just read it when you're alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Home & Garden book., March 29, 2005
This review is from: The Electric Sewer (Paperback)
Despite the title, Electric Sewer is NOT a book from Home & Gardens TV and will not in the least, inprove your home plumbing system. This is a down and dirty collection of day-to-day stories of street police work and the language used is real, just as it's used in the subways of New York and the streets of LA where I worked for 25 years. I thought I would have no problems with Nehoc's narrative but what the hell is a "Perp"? We had "suspects". He made "collars", I made "Arrests". but once into the book I was hooked, because I would laugh and mumble "Yep, been there, done that". The book has its share of gallows humor that I found familiar, the mental self preservation of cops, firefighters, and EMTs. I especially recommend the book to new recruits to law enforcement, take a look at real street cops, chasing robbery suspects, (Oops,Perps), from train car to train car, hoping your fellow coppers will be at the next station to pick up your broken fanny.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hope you buy this book, March 9, 2005

I've been a fan of Nehoc's prose for several years now and let me say this- the guy is a damn fine writer. (He should be- he graduated with honors from the Larry Storch Academy of Writing.) He's not the best author out there-that honor is reserved for Dave Hood-but Nehoc is second best and trying harder every day. I hope that soon Hollywood will discover this work and turn it into a mini-series starring John Stamos and Gillian Anderson.
