A close Shave,
By Bt "Cat." (Parts unknown) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electric Shaver (Audio CD)
Mr.Shaver seems to have gotten rowdier with age. Known as a Texas songwriter & country/ folk/roots icon, his last three releases with late son Eddie are his most all-out rock. Here he shines with some hard edged country rock that'll have you feeling somewhat more aggressive than usual. A dandy indeed!

The best roots rock cd of 1999!!,
By Frederick Rudofsky (East Greenbush, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electric Shaver (Audio CD)
Man does this album rock out!!!!!!!! From "Thunderbird" to "She Can Dance" this is pure Texas heaven. When Billy Joe does take it down a notch as on "I'll Be Here" you don't mind because this is the song you want to dance to with your bride. Billy Joe is in fine voice, the songs linger in the mind long afterwards. And, his son, Eddy, may be the best guitarist in Texas since SRV. Get yourself a copy and one for every friend you've got!

This album has got to be higher than 1,986.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Electric Shaver (Audio CD)
Anyone with the slightest interest in country, prog country, or rock n roll needs to purchase this album. No question, Billy Joe Shaver is "pure" country, but with son Eddie by his side on guitar, Billy Joe is "pure country" with an edge. Eddie Shaver, who adds musical diversity and raw energy to the Shaver team on "Victory" and "Unshaven", helps to kick start "Electric Shaver" into high gear from "Thunderbird" (the first track) on. In the liner notes a fella by the name of Kinky Friedman states that "Lyrically," Billy Joe Shaver "sounds like what Shakespeare might have written if he was alive today scribbling on a cocktail napkin at the Broken Spoke". Though the comparison might be drastic, Billy Joe Shaver is a legend, and he, certainly deserves better treatment than the 1,986 ranking on Amazon's album sales.
