5.0 out of 5 stars AIN'T NO SENSE SITTING ON A FENCE....., November 28, 2001

WOW! THAT DIDN'T TAKE LONG TO GET TO CD DID IT?? TERRIFIC, FUNNY, AND VERY WELL DONE SATIRE IN TRUE BONZO FASHION. THE FACT THAT UNUSUAL IS STILL LOST IS NOT GOOD, THOUGH. WHEN I MET ROGER SPEAR, AND THE REST OF THE BONZO BUNCH IN LONDON DURING THE EIGHTIES, THE LP WAS SO RARE THAT THE BAND MEMBERS DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO FIND ONE! BY THE WAY THE CORRECT TITLE IS "ELECTRIC SHOCKS" AND MY VINYL COPY IS STILL IN MINT CONDITION!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shelectric Ocks?, December 5, 2000
By John Kuzava (Dearborn, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
Fabulous! I purchased this on vinyl back in '72 when it was first released. At that time the Bonzo's had disintegrated and Stanshall, Innes, Leg's Larry and Roger Spear were all putting out albums. This is a funny yet musical adventure. Curiously, while in college I suffered a serious depression and it was this album that most eased the pain of that time. Literally, I would turn to Roger Ruskin Spear and find a glimmer of humor despite a very serious and dark time. For that I am grateful and cannot say enough about what a great piece of work this is. Hopefully Dave Clague (who released the CD version) can convince Roger to let him release Unusual, the equally delightful follow up. Maybe even the Andy Newman (of Thunderclap Newman) solo as well, where Roger assisted.

Great Stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Zany fun in the Bonzo mode, March 20, 2007
When people talk of the brains behind the Bonzo Dog Band, Viv Stanshall & Neil Innes tend to get all the attention, but Roger Ruskin Spear, with his zany musical inventions, loopy covers of old songs, and his fun arrangements, deserves more credit than he gets for the Bonzo sound. I was fortunate to get his 2 albums way back when, before they went out of print, and both Electric Shocks & Unusual are highly entertaining & silly in the same way as the Bonzos were. What is Mr Spear up to these days, I wonder? (By the way, why doesn't Ace or I can See For Miles reissue both lps on one cd? Or Rhino, or somebody, for cryin' out loud!)

This was a brilliant album by Roger Ruskin Spear, and in the same way Fawlty Towers is more consistently funny than Monty Python, so it is with this album compared to those of the... Read more
