5.0 out of 5 stars Is the bucket full of tears?
One thing that surprises me about buckethead is his versatility, you can listen to his albums and never get the exact same idea, or sound. The Sketches of Spain song, is an arrangement of "Concierto de Aranjuez" a classical piece, so he didnt compose it.

The entire album is incredible, you can sit and listen to it over and over and you wont get bored. It...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all I hoped for
After reading all the rave reviews, I really expected another Colma (or better!). I'm a huge Buckethead fan, Colma is one of my all-time favorite albums, and I'm also into Monsters and Robots, Praxis, and I like most of the other stuff as well.

Electric Tears is, well, nice. Put it on in the background for your new age hot tub party. Very pretty, not very...

It seems that he recorded all the guitars by himself, there are pieces with 2 or 3 guitars, sometimes 4, but mainly 2 guitars, one with the rythm and one with the leads, there are no other instruments, but there are a lot of effects (very well used).

Buckethead is very "conceptual" when he composes, unlike most of the musicians out there, and thats not good or bad, is just something he does. You just read the tittle and you will know what is about. I would dare to say that this is his best work so far, he really comunicates what he wants with his sound, very powerfull cd.

I really like "Colma", and "Electric Tears", but personally dont like his other albums, like cuckoo cloks from hell, and monsters and robots, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamlike Guitar Voyage, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Electric Tears (Audio CD)
Aaah, Buckethead. The man, the bucket, the mask, the myth. I was first introduced to Buckethead with the classic album "Monsters and Robots", which showcases his infamous and bizarrely schizophrenic style of instrumental guitar wizardry. "Electric Tears", however, shows a meditative, melodic and serene side of the man that was not only unexpected, but extremely enjoyable.

Like floating through a delerious state of near-sleep, this album will send your mind on a surreal inner journey. No percussion, no other instruments of any sort; just layer upon layer of acoustic and electric guitar that will overwhelm you in a wash of melody and texture. Neo-futuristic new age music unlike anything else I've heard. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not of this earth!, October 26, 2002

I never thought that there could be a more soulful, relaxing guitar record than Buckethead's Colma... until I heard Electric Tears. While better known for his shredding ability, Buckethead shows us here that he is more than capable of adding some emotion to his solos. The only instrument on this album is Buckethead's guitar, so it really gives him the freedom to show the sensitive side from Colma even more, and he doesn't disappoint. This album is a must-have, no matter what genre of music you like.

I didn't think it could get any better for Buckethead than "Colma," but it has indeed with this latest release, "Electric Tears."

The mellifluous music produced by Buckethead is astonishing, especially "Sketches of Spain (For Miles)." The entire disc consists of one man and the sonorous beauty generated by his guitar. Brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Breathtaking..., November 22, 2004

This album is beyond beautiful, an absolute masterpiece. Buckethead is able to convey emotion thorough his guitar better than most can with words. I can't say enough good things about it. The best music really makes you *feel* and listening to this is like a touch of heaven reaching into your soul. Sonic perfection, aural bliss. Works like this revive my faith in modern music.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING, March 3, 2003

There are few albums that I truly consider to be masterpieces. Led Zeppelin's IV, almost any Queen album, and without any doubt Buckethead's Electric Tears. As a drummer I usually stick to music with good drumming, considering that is where I get most of my insperation. But this album is by far one of the most inffluential albums I have heard to date. It is just one man playing his guitar, but yet he does so in a sense that he makes one realize that no vocals, drums, or bass is needed. It is the rawest of emotions conveyed in a beautiful way. It amazes me how a man and his Les Paul can compose such amazing music. I find it a shame that Buckethead is not as widely known as he should be, after all he is the modern day Jiimy Page in terms of his accomplishments. I highly suggest that if you are a fan of Buckethead's older stuff, you pick this up because it is truly his greatest work to date (dare I say best guitar album to date), and is an awesome CD for anyone to add to their collection. It accomplishes the ever difficult task of creating music that fans of heavy metal and progressive rock can enjoy, as well as fit in to the mainstream of pop music. Buckethead can truly be recognized as one of the most innovative and accomplished guitarists since Randy Rhodes. This album is a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars BizarroWorld, January 10, 2005
This review is from: Electric Tears (Audio CD)
New becomes old becomes new, up is down, then up again, white is black, parodox is the norm and you begin to get the idea behind Electric Tears. New age melancholy, electric guitar blues, endless riffs that lift your psyche into the new purple haze, drifting into a sightless world that noone sees except those that mask their identity from things around them...only to reveal themselves at last through the myriad delicate movements of meta-fingers gliding across wood and steel to pull you into their opposing views of those things that are us. Excellent cd is this one to be listened to.

5.0 out of 5 stars The softer side., December 10, 2004

This cd ranks near the top of my all time favorite Buckethead recordings. While certainly not as heavy as much of his other work, Electric Tears has some of the most beautiful sounds you're likely to hear.

You don't even have to like Buckethead to enjoy this disc. Parents and grandparents alike (mine included!), who normally turn their noses up when you crank Buckethead through the house, have broken down the musical barriers and embraced this disc without knowing that it was the same guitarist who just on the last CD was shredding like there was no tomorrow.

It doesn't take a musical genious to know terrific sounding music when you hear it. I recommend this cd to anyone who enjoys good, soothing music.

Buckethead may be most famous for his shredding and outright obnoxious playing style. any arguement that he is limited by his tendency to be too to shred-reliant is quashed with this effort. electric tears, which features nothing but layerings of bucketheads guitars, is a modern masterpiece and is a new take on how an album can be made and a guitar played. from beginning to end it flows seemlessly while fluctuating interestingly. by showing a softer, more melodic style, buckethead proves his versatility and sheer skill in electric tears. don't pass it up

I cannot say any more than what has already been said. I would however like to direct the folks who are curious about Buckethead to this album, as this and "Colma" always seem to be the ones recommended to newbies. Of course you will need to heed the warnings that this is unlike most of his music, which IMO is one of the aspects that makes Bucket so good. He's about as diverse as you can get within certain bounds. Now I am not saying this in a light way, but the more of his music I hear the more I'm convinced that he is simply a genius. With his extensive (that may not be a big enough description) works and his seemingly unlimited ability to produce any sound he can think of on guitar coupled with the willingness to actually produce the sounds without regard to what the general public might think. Whew! I'm out of breath after that one, but, not to get too deep here, I may not like everything he does but it well may be seminal to the stuff I do like. Okay, if I go any further we will all have to put on our waders. To sum up, yes this is a good album and you should also try his other stuff. That's about it. If you can't find it here check out TDRS, the home for a lot of Buckets' stuff.
