4.0 out of 5 stars A technology that changed everything - in 1890, January 3, 2001

This review is from: The Electrical Manufacturers 1875-1900: A Study in Competition, Entrepreneurship, Technical Change, and Economic Growth (Hardcover)
This obscure book is very relevant today. The electrical industry a century ago is strikingly similar to the Internet industry today. A new technology which drastically changes the way things are done across a wide range of businesses happens only rarely. Understanding what happened with electricity helps one to understand what's happening with the Internet. The patterns of corporate growth and death, the stock market hype, and the ultimate emergence of a few dominant players are all here.

This book has some rare documents, including Edison's original business plan for the light bulb. (It reads like an Internet IPO.) For that alone, it's worth it to the serious investor.

This book is a Downside.com recommendation.
