“As stated in the preface, they emphasize “description and explanation, in molecular and electronic terms, of the observed phenomena.” They have succeeded admirably. Highly recommended.”

I just received this volume and have only skimmed the contents so far. I have not read enough to make intelligent comments as to the quality of the contents (though what I have read so far is encouraging). However, this printing has a very LARGE PROBLEM. Apparently when the book was electronically typeset, someone mixed up the fonts used for equations. Consequently, many of the symbols used in equations are garbled. For example, an equal sign is printed with the "1/4" symbol. There are also half-a-dozen other weird substitutions that make even simple equations incomprehensible. With persistence, it looks like one can "decode" this mess, but it is certainly not what one expects in a professionally produced book. Obviously, no one bothered to carefully look at the printed product before shipping.
