Finding a working outlet on a gig can be a hassle. This will save you valuable time. Don't take a bar manager's word any more before you set up. (They are usually wrong.) Check it yourself, then find one that works. I should have bought one of these years ago. Life is easier now. I'm buying them for all my friends.

Useful, but they have a big design error,

Agreed, these are great for people who set up gear in places with dodgy outlets.
BUT be aware: I dropped it and one light broke. If the red bulb breaks, it can't warn you of a problem, can it? A better design would have a 2 color LED in each position - red bad, green good. Or just LEDs period, which aren't prone to breakage.

There are a few higher priced versions of this product, but they all do the exact same thing. If you need a tool like this, buy this one now. Including shipping, it will still be cheaper than driving to the closest store that sells them. I got mine and everything works great; it's a very solid tool.
