3.0 out of 5 stars Falls short, but offers plenty of options... November 3, 2009
Verified Purchase
The 2880 wants to be so much, but misses the mark at times and as such--arguably must take a second chair to the RC-50.

To consider it in a world where no other looper was available, it has some great features (i.e. big switches and loads of time for the four tracks it does offer); but in a world where having the option to select a different bank for a fresh series of loops on the fly exists, the 2880 has no such option. This means you must save the four tracks you just recorded (without any easily visible 'undo' or 'clear' option for each individual track) prior to creating a new set of loops OR lose what you've recorded so far in the process.

The reverse and octave features are nice for mixing layering effects and such you wish to accomplish using only the looper. The addition of a 5th mix-down track is unique, but oddly out of place given the initial limitations on recording. Quantize and Clix features should showcase some of the lofty goals the designers had for this pedal, but instead they highlight the flaws and limitations (no visible BPM, slider to change value, single sound).

If you consider yourself a pedal collector or an organic-loop purist (although this model eschews that analog philosophy for a digital stab at recreating analog action) you might want to add and keep this in your arsenal for its rich history and on-board, on-the-fly mixing and layering options.

If you are looking for a looper with on-board versatility, a deep rhythm section, multiple track recording with multiple storage banks--look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this super looper. January 5, 2010
By Jason
The Electro Harmonix 2880 Super Multi-track Looper was delivered to me recently. I am very happy with it, so here is a small review for anyone interested in this new looper.

The 2880 is well designed and well build, with quality knobs, pots and faders. It is smaller and lighter than I expected and this is a plus, at least for me.

This is a user friendly machine - especially those who are familiar with any multitrack recorder or mixing console will feel at home right away. It is great to have faders and pan pots for each track/loop and control these parameters in real time.

The audio fidelity is great, no nasty compression, no hiss, no artifacts, no degradation. The two inputs have lots of headroom before clipping and they sound good with various sources. The converter sounds nice - no cheap digital nastyness here. The panning is accurate and clear and the faders have that nice feel you expect when you need to do smooth fade ins/outs, small changes or big moves.

Electro Harmonix made a powerful looper. Multiple mono or stereo loops can be recorded of four different tracks and you are free to mix everything down to a stereo track to have the other ones available for additional
work. You can move the faders and pan pots during mixdown and everything will be recorded onto the mixdown track just as you hear it. You can also record onto the mixdown track as many times as you like and keep the
previous stuff there, too.

Loops can be pitch shifted at any time with the octave button and you are also free to do bends up and down with the tempo slider. The reverse feature is also great. Pitch change and reverse can be active at the same

Overdub and punch in actions are easy, with very simple steps to follow.

I bought this looper with pedalboard and it has a lot fo pro's and con's.Frist off if your trying to ync it with midi forget it. It doesnt do the job.It is jsut poorly implemented. The sound quality is very good.even with the footswitch ,trying to use it live you will find that your stepping on so many footswitches is crazy. It would be good for an occosaional loop if playig at home and messing around
