The Electro Harmonix #1 Echo is simple to use, ruggedly build, and sounds great. I rarely turn the "Blend" knob past 1/4, the "Delay" knob gives you everything from short slapback to as long as you'll ever need for most live performances, with the most useful positions for me being around 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock or so. The "Feedback" knob allows 1 to an infinite number of repeats. The only thing this pedal is lacking is perhaps a reverse echo, but I wouldn't use it that much anyway. I find it is very easy to adjust on the fly, even in the middle of a tune, since the knobs are easy to see and bigger than some. I play all kinds of music but mostly contemporary christian stuff, and this pedal, combined with reverb and a nice tube amp, will allow you to do everything from U2 to Chris Tomlin and Anberlin. The only drawback is that you can ONLY use the AC power supply that is provided; you can't use a battery. This for me was fine, since I hate changing batteries in the middle of a gig or realizing that I don't have a spare. I highly recommend the #1 Echo pedal and believe it will fill the needs of most musicians, from amateur to professional. Keep it simple!

I'm a fan of EH pedals, I own 12 of them. This pedal is a keeper. It has good clear clean tones, simple setting controls and small enough for your pedal board. It also connects to popular daisy chains to get power. The only negative point of this pedal is that there is a slight volume drop when engaged. I fix this problem with the help of a volume boost on my Line6 PODHD500. If I didn't have the Line6 pedal for a volume boost I would use the EH LB1 power booster. I use to use that with the EH flanger hoax as that pedal also had a drop in volume. The volume drop may irritate live performance users. I am just a hobbyist so the volume drop does not bother me much

The first knob is weird, and I don't know why Electro Harmonix thought it was a good idea. With the knob fully counter-clockwise, you hear only the direct signal and no repeats. With the knob fully clockwise, you hear only the repeats and no direct signal. Any other delay pedal, you are only affecting how loud the repeats are, and the direct signal is left alone. With this pedal, if you put it about halfway, direct signal goes down and repeats go up. It seems really lame to me.

The middle knob is very, very sensitive to the tiniest movements. It goes from 1 milisecond to 2 full seconds, and it can be hard to dial in the exact delay time that you want. If you bump the knob or try to get a different sound, going back to what you had before is difficult.

The third knob is just how long the repeats go on for, which is standard on any delay pedal.

Because of the weird first knob and super-sensitive second knob, I decided to ditch this pedal. Know that this is a digital delay, and sounds like a digital delay, not like an analog delay. I would not recommend this pedal. If you want a cheaper (in price) but higher quality digital delay, go with the Boss DD-3. If you want analog delay, the Ibanez AD9 and the MXR Carbon Copy are inexpensive as far as analog delays go, and are great-sounding pedals.
