Product Description

Classic 60's overdrive from genuine germanium transistors. All adjustments for Bias and Volts control are on top of the case and not buried inside of it. The Germanium OD lets you easily dial in that perfect vintage germanium tone. Need proof? Check it out... one try will convince you.

in my opinion this pedal is in its finest form when used to add a subtle vintage rasp to your tone. You do this by dialing the bias to just the right spot in relation to where you have the voltage. Setting the bias slightly above the volts can give you a ripped speaker effect (like the Kinks used), and upping it some more will give a spitty dying battery sound that i think is cool. You can play with the two knobs for literally hours and get all kinds of sounds out of this box.

one trick I've found is that by putting it in front of a lackluster fuzz (like my Biyang FZ-7) and cranking the bias you can meet the Spirit in the Sky, which will give you great Satisfaction.

I've tried a lot of TS style pedals, including the TS9 and various clones. It's not my thing - too nasal and standard (lame?) sounding. The EHX Germanium OD is not a TS style overdrive. If you're looking for that, you won't get it here, and if you're looking for something with tons of gain, again, this is not the pedal for you. If you're into a 60s style, Kinks or Beatles kind of overdrive, this is definitely worth a try. I can't say enough good things about it. The best thing about it is that it has its own character: a wide open, uncompressed, classic British overdrive that works best in front of a tube amp on the verge of breakup. Also, unlike the TS style pedals, which seem to only want to get more nasal and pedal-like at louder, gig volumes, the Germanium OD is *great* for gigging. I play this in a pretty loud 6-piece pop-punk band, and play a Strat or a G+L Asat Special (with large, high output, P-90 like single coils) into the G.O.D. into a Fender Blues Deluxe RI, and the G.O.D. helps me cut through the mix while retaining the 60s jangle and tube sound. To the folks who are bashing this pedal because it's not a TS9 - that's the whole point: it's not a TS9, and for me, that's what's great about.

This pedal has one fatal flaw... There is no volume control. Turn it on and all of a sudden your volume is many times louder. I absolutely would not buy this pedal. Spend another 20 dollars and get the TS9.

I had a germanium diode overdrive pedal built once, and the best way to describe it is that at moderate gain levels, it does the U2 Joshua Tree sound. I was instantly able to get the tone of songs like "Pride", "Where the Streets Have No Name", etc. That's the type of tone you get at moderate gain. This pedal likely goes there and more... it definitely gets a mention on my wish list!
