The Mightiest Mixer of them ALL!,
By Karma wilson "wilsonbrood" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electrolux DX200-GY Metallic Grey DLX 2000 Stand Mixer 8-qt.
I researched buying a mixer for months. Although the DLX was my first choice I ordered a cheaper mixer (Dimension 2000) which promptly broke--twice--in one week before I insisted to the dealer that I wanted my money back. Then I purchased the DLX Assistant and I have NEVER regretted my decision. This mixer easily mixes seven loaves of bread at once. The open top makes it as easy to use as a bread machine. I dump and mix my ingredients easily and end up with lovely dough. I have made cookie dough, bread, mashed potatoes, cheese cake, pumpkin pie, whipped cream and much more in this mixer. I can cream butter to the silkiest, fluffiest texture. I have also used the Bosch universal mixer, Dimension 2000 mixer and standard Kitchen Aid mixer and there is no comparison in my opinion. While the Bosch was okay--the kitchen aid was only for batters and mashed potatoes and the dimension was just junk. But the DLX is by far the sturdiest most well made of the mixers. The gears are solid stainless steal. I use the blender daily for making smoothies with large ice cubes. My one complaint is that the blender could be bigger. But it is easy to clean, and while the blades aren't sharp--they work fantastic. This also makes for nice cleaning as I don't have to worry about slicing my hand every time I wash my blender. I also have the mean grinder attachement which I have used to literally grind 100's of pounds of burger with NOT ONE CLOG YET. AS somebody who has used meat grinders before I can tell you that is remarkable. This seventy dollar attachment is better than the mid-range meat grinders you will buy that cost in the mid two hundreds. That helps make up for the relatively high cost of the mixer. The action on this mixer is different--so if you're used to a kitchen aid expect a learning curve. However, I find it a pleasure to use and easier to clean than the kitchen aid or bosch. If you have a storage concern this mixer ISN'T FOR YOU. It weights about 40 lbs! I keep mine permantely on the counter top--but it's so lovely I like having it out. I couldn't imagine putting it away all the time. It's an appliance with substance and a daily part of my cooking. If you have limited space go for the Bosch compact or universal. If you want the largest mixing capacity and a machine you will probably never have to repair or replace buy THIS MIXER. You'll be glad you did!

Simply The Best Mixer Available!,
By
This review is from: Electrolux DX200-GY Metallic Grey DLX 2000 Stand Mixer 8-qt.
Previous reviewer stated "where is the recipe book and guidance"Answer to that question is other than a very few receipes their is none. However, The machine is easy to figure out once you understand it's mixing concept. When in doubt, place adjustable arm all the way out & then increase speed while slowly readjusting arm inward until desired mixing achieved. Really very simple once you get the hang of it. Mixer it'self is terrific, will do anything & everything but stand on it's head and gargle peanut butter. No need for the dough hook when making a few loaves of bread & adding ingredients is a snap due to the uniqueness of the mixing action which leaves the whole front half of the Mixing bowl unrestricted by a head or beaters. Summing up! A very high quality product sans a receipe book.

I have to admit I was a bit weary shovelling out $500 for a stand mixer. The Electrolux is worth every penny. Say goodbye to scarping down the sides of your mixing bowl (this is done continuously during the mixing process thanks to the clever "roller/scraper" system)....I make a lot of large bread recipes (especially dense European breads) and find that the textures from this machine are superb! If you're a serious baker don't even think twice about a Kitchen-Aid, spend a bit more and get this powerful piece of equipment.

A new favorite workhorse,
By Sam (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electrolux DX200-GY Metallic Grey DLX 2000 Stand Mixer 8-qt.
[Update 12/2010. I've had this for just about one year now and I love it even more. Today I made another loaf of 100% whole wheat bread. For whatever reason, this appliance makes the best whole wheat loaves. I never, ever have a failure and the bread rises very high. I also use the appliance for slicing nuts, grain flaker (I flatten oat berries for my cereal)]I bought the large Kitchen Aid mixer when it was made by Hobart. I'm guessing that it's about 40 years old now. I used it often but found it was terrible for making whole wheat dough; the dough just wouldn't stick to the dough hook. Then I bought a Cuisinart DLC-X Plus food processor when it was still made in Japan; very high quality but it was nearly $1000. It's now about 20+ years old. I can make fantastic pizza dough in less than 2 minutes. When it comes to whole wheat dough, I wound up burning out the motor and cracking the mixing bowl. It cost me over $500 to get both fixed. I finally figured out how to make 100% whole wheat dough in the Cusinart but it's a real pain. Somehow I found the Electrolux DLX. I did some research on it, watched the soundless, no text video which gave me a basic idea of how the appliance worked. If you blindly buy or receive the DLX, you will be extremely disappointed and frustrated by the total lack of any instructions. Watch the video and read up on it first. There's a Yahoo mixer forum which is somewhat helpful. The mixer is still made in Sweden. I won't buy expensive appliances made in China. Throwing caution to the wind, I bought it from a place that had a 30-day no questions asked return policy with no restocking fee. I was somewhat terrified of buying something this expensive and not being able to return it if it turned out to be awful. While I was at it, I bought the grain flaker, the pasta maker, and the slicer with the extra attachments. The meat grinder is on back order so I didn't get that. I want to make my own turkey sausage without all of the chemicals. This is what you need to know if you buy this multi-purpose appliance: The manual is absolutely worthless. It provides zero information except for legal disclaimers. I kid you not. If you choose to buy the slicer, the blades are very light weight metal. I consider them expensive disposables. The metal isn't thick enough to do resharpen. I'm guessing that 10 or 20 years ago, the metal gauge was much thicker. For breakfast cereal, I use one of the slicker blades to crack almonds and hazelnuts. I crack the nuts into chunks instead of reducing them to dust for better consistency. The grain flaker is wonderful. I buy bulk flax seed, oat berries and whole quinoa. I make my own breakfast cereal with fruits that I've dehydrated (I use the Nu-Wave oven). The flaker effortlessly rolls out the grain. Since this is not a commercial device, don't expect to roll out a 40lb bag of grains. It takes a few minutes to produce enough flakes to fill a large container. I absolutely love this attachment. Now, onto dough making. Kneading 100% whole wheat dough isn't easy but with the DLX, it's a joy. I don't want my whole wheat bread to be a block of concrete. The trick is to knead the dough thoroughly, add some vital wheat gluten and keep the dough somewhat sticky. As the dough rises, the whole wheat continues to absorb moisture. The DLX handles the thick, sticky dough effortlessly. I make only two large loaves of bread at a time but it can handle much larger amounts. The mixer by itself is not very heavy. The metal bowl is of very high quality thick stainless steel. The bowl seems to weigh as much as the mixer; it feels like genuine commercial quality. This a lifetime bowl. The metal dough hook (there are two types that are included) is also very high quality. Unless you lose the metal hook, you'll never have to replace it. The mixing paradigm is radically different than traditional mixers that have the dough hook in the center of the bowl. I'm still learning out how to use it. The bowl blade scraper is very useful so that you don't have to keep scraping the edges of the bowl manually. I think that $75 for the plastic blender attachment is obscenely overpriced and I refused to buy it on principal. I love this appliance and the attachments and I would buy it again without a second thought. However, I wouldn't buy it for someone as a gift since they would be utterly clueless how to use it.

The Most Powerful Mixer Around With the Largest Work Bowl Ever For a Home Stand Mixer!! A Real Workhorse of a Monster!!!,
By Daquan13 (East Boston, MA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electrolux DX200-GY Metallic Grey DLX 2000 Stand Mixer 8-qt.
The Electrolux Assistant DLX-2000 is without a doubt the most powerful home stand mixer available!! It meets and exceeds all of my expectations!! It is simplicity in and of itself! No other home machine even comes close! I DO also have two KitchenAid stand mixers (K-45SS & K-5SS) which are very good for normal amounts of food to be processed, but this one shows all of the competition out there who's boss!! It has the largest capacity work bowl ever - allowing you to make bread dough recipes containing up to a whopping 5lbs of flour at once! No other home machine on the market or in the world can do that or even make that claim! None whatsoever!! Other stand mixer brands might claim that the motors in their machines are more powerful than the one in the Electrolux Assistant DLX-2000. But in this case, It's not just the amount of power that's in the motor that makes the machine, but also, rather the amount of torque that the machine produces to handle the tasks that the mixer can and will endure. Which is why the DLX-2000 has an 8-qt bowl to handle stiff bread doughs, cookie doughs and batters. A very heavy-guaged and huge beautiful shiny lusterous and luscious 8-qt stainless steel bowl makes short work of the most demanding tasks. The unique roller / scraper action mixes bread dough, cake batters, quick breads and pie filling with great speed and efficiency. Also, the large stainless steel dough hook takes care of bread recipes that are stiffer and larger. Smaller 6-qt plastic bowl with double whisk assembly can handle up to about 18 egg whites for mounds of meringue or tons of whipped cream!! It's the most unique, funny looking and unusual stand mixer that I've ever had the pure pleasure of using and enjoying! It has never even batted and eyelash. Also, it can mix large amounts of ground meat mixture with the dough hook for tons of meat loaf, meat balls and burgers. You can even process up to about three or four box cake mixes at once! It's no joke, this machine really means business and it just LOVES to do it's job!!! And the ALL-METAL transmission is housed in a METAL gearbox - NOT a cheap and flimsy plastic one!! I love it!! Powerful high-torque 600-watt motor and belt drive transmission has the power to plow through even the heaviest doughs and batters with the greatest of ease!! Wow, what a monster of a mixer this is! A vast array of optional accessories are availible that help make this machine the very ultimate in food processing!! Also has a variable speed control and a timer that runs up to 12 minutes! Lighted control dials on panel illuminate when machine is plugged in. No overhead motor head to get in the way. Base is made of heavy die-cast metal. A real workhorse that won't let you down!! In years past, one had to rely on cheap and flimsily-made stand mixers that were Relics of the Dinosaur Age, which would hot-burn the wimpy pea-brain motors in them when it came to making bread or cookie dough! And unless you were buying an expensive gargantuan commercial-type mixer, you had no other choice but to deal with and work your way around such shortcomings. The Electrolux Assistant muscles it's way through the competition and comes out on top!! It's been admired, used and adored by European and Swedish bakers and cooks for well over 50 years!! And it DOES have a proven excellent track record as being the undisputed leader in home electric stand mixers! So if you're just about as sick and tired as I am of dealing with cheap and flimsy stand mixers that are always breaking down, and when you're ready to take that ultimate step up to the finest stand mixer out there, then THIS mixer is the one to get!! It will make all your mixing and baking tasks a breeze!! Gives truly great professional results for all of your baked goods and luscious deserts! ~Daquan13.

where is the recipe book and guidance????,
By A Customer
This review is from: Electrolux DX200-GY Metallic Grey DLX 2000 Stand Mixer 8-qt.
My 1st experience w/ this DLX is how can it be this much $$$ and offer no direction on how to use??? I called their C.S. & they gave me a TOLL call # to reach for help and that man (Mr. Ross) was about as helpful as someone who is offering directions while speaking a foriegn language! Since I had no directions I plucked a recipe out of one of my books and the DLX bowl spun around in circles while my dough just sat there doing nothing. I had to use a spoon to get it to move! I will give this DLX 1 more chance and if still doesn't knead the dough, its going right back to the store!!!!
