Currently, all Electrolux/Frigidaire built front-load washers fail prematurely, due to a design/material defect in the construction of the stainless steel tub's rear spanner support, also known as "The Spider." The corroded spider and associated bearings render many Electrolux/Frigidaire built front-load washers "junk" within a few short years! The Spider Problem applies to ALL Electrolux manufactured front-load washers, which include Frigidaire and Sears Kenmore Front-Load Models starting with first three digits: 417.

It wasn't long ago that Twenty Years was considered the normal life expectancy for a well built major appliance. Six years old for a clothes washer used to be considered a fairly new machine. But, I have experienced and read about other consumers with the all too common failures of these Electrolux/Frigidaire built front load models. As early as six years old, the machine is on borrowed time and you should expect to experience catastrophic inner tub's spider/spanner failure, along with associated Bearing Failure. The failure usually begins with a knocking sound during the spin cycle, as the corrosion prematurely eats through the inner tub's spider/spanner support and the tub breaks away from the spider; finally ending with a crash that can sound like a car accident in your laundry room. The labor cost to repair is between $400-$600, plus parts.

Because Electrolux/Frigidaire also manufactures some of the Kenmore front load models, you can read more about these failures by Googling: Why Kenmore Front Load Washers Fail at Appliance Journal. There you will find a variety of Electrolux/Frigidaire built brands, including some GE models, built by Frigidaire, that are affected by this premature corrosion defect.

Our machine has died twice in 13 months. Washer pump, pressure sensors and main control panel all failed If you love going to the laundromat...this is the machine for you!

I have this paired with the matching dryer as a stackable. Although the machines are perfectly leveled, the unit rocks alarmingly during several parts of the spin cycle. The bleach and other dispensers remain almost full of water at the end of each use; so much so, that I have to remove the entire tray and dump the excess water out (the manual says that "water remaining in the dispenser compartments is normal" -- oh really? This is my third frontloader and neither of the others did that). There is anywhere between 7 and 8 ounces of water remaining in the dispensers, which if left there would quickly start to breed bacteria.

Others have mentioned the incredibly annoying inability to leave the door ajar for air circulation; your choices are either Door Closed or Door Wide Open. I leave ours wide open which, since it is in a hallway, is not the best option for navigation as you can imagine. The pressure closure is just waiting to break, I am sure...

Whatever is in the interior of this washer other than the stainless drum emits a sweetish odor that I have never smelled in any other washer before. Even with the door left open all the time when not in use, the odor is noticeable anywhere within a few feet of the washer. It was extremely strong during the first few months of use. When I called Electrolux to inquire about this, the rep told me that "your laundry detergent will mask any odor". Well that's fine except that someone in the house has severe fragrance allergies and so we can ONLY use fragrance-free laundry products. Big help.

I am equally non-impressed with the matching dryer but that's another review...

Ditto on all bad reviews. Of course the motor ceased just after warranty out. Very, very disappointed! DO NOT waste your money! Also will not by front load again. Thought I was purchasing a quality product...apparently not!
