Disappointing for an Electrolux,
By Johanna (Brewster, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Electrolux EL5010a Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner - Deluxe Kit (Kitchen)
I bought the Aptitude upright because I currently own an older Electrolux upright (Discovery II model from 1987) and, 18 years later, have had no problems with it whatsoever (wanted another to keep upstairs).
Truly, the Discovery is the BEST upright I have ever used and was disappointed that the Aptitude just doesn't measure up. (That is most likely the reason it was half the price of the Discovery, which is no longer manufactured ... bummer.) I never thought the day would come when I would say Electrolux is now another run-of-the-mill vacuum. The features that made their upright unique (i.e. superior edge cleaning on both sides, ability to clean under most furniture due to slim design and the fact that the arm/handle could be easily released so that the unit was COMPLETELY flat, etc.) were ELIMINATED from the newer model. The Aptitude's arm folds down but not as flat as the Discovery and, therefore, cannot get under as many pieces of furniture. The newer model is very bulky and much heavier, making it easier for me to vacuum with the older one. Electrolux was the only vacuum cleaner brand I knew -- canisters and uprights. While the Aptitude is a good vacuum cleaner, I can honestly say it is nothing special.

Great vacuum for the price,

I bought this product to replace a Hoover Bagless Vacuum that I purchased four years ago for around $400. The Hoover model was no longer working very well & the allure of a bagless vacuum had definitely worn off. My parents have owned Electrolux products for years & have always been happy with their quality. When I saw the Aptitude at such a low price, I was a little skeptical. The old saying you get what you pay for. The Aptitude is plastic. However, so was the Hoover I had purchased four years earlier. Does the Aptitude compare to the Electrolux models of the past? No. However, I didn't pay the $600 price tag that my parents did either. In my opinion the Aptitude works great, especially for the $250 price. If you're looking for a good vacuum cleaner in this price range, the Aptitude is definitely the one.

Company does not stand behind this product,
This review is from: Electrolux EL5010a Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner - Deluxe Kit (Kitchen)
I purchased one of these vacuums less than 3 months ago and now see the hose is disintegrating. It has a series of tears in the folds all along the hose. I contacted the company about the problem and was told that we could buy a piece to fix it or buy a new vacuum. You purchase a major product like this you would expect the company to stand behind it, not want you to buy the pieces to fix what is their manufacturing problem.
Beware this vacuum. It does not live up to its hype.

Great vacuum, very versatile!,

After doing much research, Consumer Reports and reading a lot of reviews, I decided to by the EL 5010 upright. I went to Sears to get a highly rated Kenmore model. However, after comparing the way it felt compared to the Electrolux, I decided to get the Electrolux. It's attractive appearance, comfortable handle, quieter 2 speed motor, tool accessory package and ease of use is what sold me! I originally had planned to get one of the Dyson's but after reading what Consumer Reports said about it, I realized it's not all its hyped to be, inspite of all the rave reviews on this site. Compare several upright vacuums, listen to them and practice handling them in person in a store before you buy or order on line and you'll see what I mean about this wonderfully pleasant vacuum! I was able to clean areas around the computers and wiring along the edge of the wall that have never been cleaned before with the on board tools and hose.

What a Rip-Off,

I first, i thought i was getting a "True Electrolux" for a bargin price. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is oh so true. As it turns out, this is a cheap Eureka vacuum cleaner. First time i tryed to clean under a chair, i discovered the brush head lifts off the floor completely. Forget cleaning under a bed. It's noisy, looks like cheaper tthan normal plastic parts. It also left scuff marks all over my wood flooring. I could get the same vacuum cleaner but branded Eureka for a lot less money if thats what i wanted. For me, it's going back for a refund. My advise, stay away from this product. If it is an Electrolux you want (as i do) then be sure you buy the real item. Don't know why, but the real Electrolux is now called Aerus or something like that. Same great products but a different name now.My 3 cents worth,

Buyer Beware....This is not a real Electrolux!!,

I purchased an upright Electrolux about 20 years ago and the vacuum is still going strong, needed another vacuum and greed got the best of me......"an Electrolux for just a little over $300?....I better snatch that up right away!"....What a mistake!! cheap, poor fitting plastic, poor overall performance. a warmed over Eureka (Same Company).Evidently Electrolux sold off the high quality vacuum cleaner portion of their business to a company called Aerus, they have a web site or you can buy a slightly different version of the Aerus 3000, still the high quality of past Electrolux's, on QVC called the "Ultralux by Electrolux" for $344.

I have had mine for about 9 or 10 months and no problems. I do notice that if you don't change the bag when it's getting full it makes a funky smell, kind of smells like old doritos. I thought the air filter would stop the smells but hey it gets the job done you just have to change the bag when you start to smell the funk.

I owned a bagless vacuum before and just recently bought the Aptitude. I will NEVER own a bagless vacuum again as they are very messy and dirty. I love my new Aptitude though. It has much more power than the bagless(Bissell)I owned before. I own a rottweiler and he is constantly shedding but the Aptitude picks up his hair no problem; unlike the bagless, I spent about 10 min. vacuuming to get the hair out in just one little bedroom! Also, it is very smoothe and easy to operate. NOt hard to push around like my clunky old vacuum. Anyway, I'm very happy with it and while its not a "true" Electrolux, it works for me just fine!

only a 4 because nothing is PERFECT. But I would recommend this vacuum, it does a great job pulling up the pet hair! Well built unit, generous sturdy cord, well made attachments...
i'm saddened when i read comparisons to a eureka...simply not true. this is a very solid unit with a 2 year warranty (3 depending on where you buy it!). i think it will serve me well for years to come.

Not my Mother's Electrolux,

For years my Mom used her old Electrolux canister vacuum and it worked like a champ. So needless to say I was very excited to see Electrolux had re-released their product line that is better than ever! Wow, what can I say, it's light, powerful easy to use and picks up pet hair like crazy. Plus, with the HEPA filter my daughter's allergies symptoms have been reduced. I can't say enough good thing about it. It almost makes vacuuming fun.
