Product Description

barefloor
DeepClean power head delivers superior cleaning performance
tools
Tools stored in the handle and telescopic wand for easy above-floor cleaning
Exceptional performance, modern design, and brilliant color combine in this simple-to-use canister vacuum cleaner. The unit's power head offers a separate motor to drive thorough carpet cleaning, which can be witnessed through the clear window, and a low profile for easy access under nearly any kind of furniture. Quickly switch between carpets and hard floors by controlling the brush roll using fingertip controls--no need to bend and stoop to get the perfect kind of clean. Also, suction power control on the handle helps with specialty above-the-floor cleaning such as drapery and furniture. On-board tools for above-the-floor cleaning consist of an upholstery brush, a dusting brush, a crevice tool, and a caddy.

The Complete Clean

In addition, the vacuum provides the freshest, cleanest house possible with its long-life HEPA H12 filtration system, which makes the air coming out even cleaner than the air going in. Its superior filtration system captures 99.97-percent of dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns. Plus, it uses the new auto-close system of the Electrolux s-bag, which prevents dust from escaping when changing the 2-quart-capacity bag. Every part of the vacuum, in fact, comes tightly sealed so no dirty air can escape. Other highlights include electronic speed control, a super silent motor, an electronic "full" dust-bag indicator, and an ergonomic design. Even more, with a durable brush roll and long-life belt, there's minimal maintenance over the life of the cleaner. The 1400-watt canister vacuum cleaner measures 9-1/2 by 12 by 18 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

Getting the Best Results

Use ‘Brushroll off’ setting for wood, tile, or other hard-surface floors. Do not use ‘Brushroll On’ setting for hard surface floors, as the brush roll could damage delicate surfaces.

Hard Floors: Use the bare floor brush. Use the power nozzle. (Brushroll Off)
Carpets: Use the power nozzle. (Brushroll On)
Crevices, corners, etc.: Use the crevice tool.
Curtains, lightweight fabrics, etc. : Use the dusting brush. Reduce suction power if necessary.
Frames, bookshelves, etc. : Use the dusting brush.
Upholstered furniture: Use the upholstery tool

Easy Cleaning Tips

The power nozzle is ideal for all types of carpeting because of the deep cleaning brushroll. Turn off brush roll when cleaning bare floors. After connecting the power nozzle to the wand and hose, turn on the canister and the brush roll for carpet cleaning. The cleaning height can be adjusted by pressing on the height adjustment pedal located on the rear of the hood. The height indicator will change from low to medium to high as you make the adjustment. Use the lowest setting that still allows easy maneuvering on the carpet. Release the handle by pressing down on the handle release button. Replace the bag and filter from time to time when the indicator is lit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Research November 14, 2003
I was quite confused when I first started doing research on electorlux. My mother, and her mother, have always owned electrolux vacuums. This electrolux is not the same company that has been doing business in the U.S. under the electrolux name in the past. The old electrolux has changed their name to Aerus Electrolux.
Electrolux is an international company that states on their website "Electrolux is the world's largest producer of appliances and equipment for kitchen, cleaning and outdoor use." In the United States they do business under the familiar names: Eureka, Frigidaire, Poulan, Weed Eater, and now thier upscale brand Electrolux.

OK, on to the vacuum. I bought mine after much research at Lowe's. While opening and putting the thing together, a small clip that holds the power head on the shaft broke off. I called the company and they said they would send me a new piece with out much hassle, but then got a call back 15 minutes later saying that since the product was so new, it might take 2 months to send me a replacement part and suggested I just return it for a new one to Lowe's. My over all experience with thier customer support leads me to beleive that I won't have too many problems dealing with them in the future.

My second vacuum unpacked fine and after a couple uses I'm quite satisfied with it's performance. The carpet powerhead does very well on my rugs, and even does ok on hard floors. The hard floor attachment is more than a foot wide and makes quick work of the hard wood in my house but is so wide you have to switch it for the corner tool to get around most furnature. I was impressed with the suction from the vacuum, even before I noticed that I only had it turned up half way :) So I'll try to sum up the pros and cons.

Pro:
Cool looking
Nice cord length and roll up storage
Wide reach on the attachments
Small size of the canister
Does a good job of sucking up small stuff
Bags are just more than $1 each (for the standard bags)
Easily turn on and off the roller on the power head
Both the hard floor attachment, and the power head easily go under beds and couches

Con:
Hard to deteach the hose from the canister for storage
Power head won't work on bath mats

I'll post again in a few months when I see how it's holding up.

1.0 out of 5 stars the handle melted! January 13, 2005
Well, I have to revise my review, which is listed below. I posted that review just after I bought the Oxygen in 2005. It worked fine for four years, so I guess I got my money's worth, if you think it's worth $100 a year. Then the plastic handle just melted -- I kept smelling a burning smell as I was vacuuming, and thought at first it was the engine, but then I saw the plastic was red-hot and literally melting near the handle, where the attachment plugs into the handle. I took it to an Electrolux store to get it fixed and they said (a) it's not really Electrolux, it's a Eureka, and (b) it would cost several hundred dollars to repair it. So I bought a really nice Panasonic canister vacuum from Amazon, the Panasonic MC-CG885, that seems to be working well so far (knock wood)... It has a metal hose, so at least that can't melt.

Here's my original review:

My main complaint with other vacuum cleaners I've had (and I've had many -- Kenmores, Eurekas, Hoovers, you name it) is that they're heavy, and loud. The Oxygen is lightweight (it weighs a mere 13 pounds, as opposed to most other cleaners, which weigh at least 20 pounds) and very quiet. But it's very powerful, has great suction, and almost breaks away and cleans on its own when you turn on the carpet feature. It's very easy to switch between carpet and bare floor, since the control is on the handle. The only drawback: the bare-floor brush attachment doesn't attach very well -- it should snap on, but it doesn't, so it tends to come off sometimes. But that's nothing compared to all the wonderful things there are about this neat little vacuum cleaner. Definitely worth the extra money.

By the way, I used to own an Electrolux, the real kind that's made in the USA, and although it was a good vacuum cleaner it weighed a ton and was difficult to lug around different rooms. I'd much rather have this lighter-weight Swedish model, esp. since it's half the price of the American Electrolux.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compared to Kenmore: Better and Worse November 16, 2010
We had two mid-range Kenmore canister vacs prior to this.

The Electrolux Oxygen (EL6988E) is many ways better and many ways worse.

Check out the list for what matters most to you.

Prices bounce around. Low tide for this model is about 325 delivered.

Better:

* Quieter (significantly)

- Power head pivots in both directions and has larger wheels. Easier to maneuver.
- Wand length adjusts (34" to 47")
- 2-year warranty (vs 1-year for Kenmore)
- LED headlights & height indicator
- Bag-full indicator light (Kenmore's is less visible)

Toss-up:

- Suction is quite good
- 3rd party bags: 36 Oxygen Vacuum Bags are available at 50% savings (as with Kenmore)
- Auto shut-off when motor overheats or power head stalls
- Weight: 22.8 lbs (16.9 without power head). Kenmore is 21.5 lbs (16.3)
- Floor Brush: Electrolux is 60 % wider (13.7" vs 8.5") (but suction is less concentrated)
- Both Kenmores died after 5.5 years. Will Electrolux last longer?

Worse:

* Cord is only 20.3 ft long (Kenmore is 30% longer. 26.5 ft. Very handy.)
* Dust bag is 40% smaller (appx 180 vs 300 cu. in.) (More expense, more hassle)
* Hose is flimsy (Big difference vs Kenmore) (and replacement is $47)
* Lacks swivel hose mount on base unit. (Hose kinks and will eventually crack)
* Power switch is on the base, not the handle. (and is easily confused with the cord-retract button)
* Floor brush can't be stored on-board (Small nozzle & furniture brush store on the wand handle)
* Generic nozzles won't fit. Only Electrolux nozzles.
* More expensive. (Check Panasonic model that's almost identical to the Kenmores we had.)

- Manual is less useful. Fewer tips & troubleshooting details. Doesn't include full parts diagram & part numbers. Electrolux provides fewer product specifications at their Web site.

I am comparing to a 2005 Kenmore mid-range vac. Current models may differ.

Check reviews for the Panasonic MC-CG902 Canister Vacuum Cleaner. It's about identical to the mid-range Sears Kenmore canister vac.

Summary: A good vac with lots of flaws: 3.5 stars.
