There is a plastic piece that switches suction from the main part to the wand and back again.
Forgiven
I use the vacuum only 1-2 times week, have had it only a couple of months, cleaned the filter several times and emptied the canister regularly.

I enjoy NOT having to sit on the floor and cut off long hair (mine) that accumulated around the brush.

The Electrolux Precision is no doubt a good looking vacuum. With its modern design and silver/chrome color scheme, the angles and shape give this machine almost a robotic look to it. But there's more to this unit than meets the eye. There are features unique to it that you wont find on just any other vacuum. While it has both good qualities and a few small features that could be improved upon, one things for sure, the Electrolux Precision is not your everyday vacuum.

This medium sized vacuum has some weight to it. It's not for someone looking for an ultra-light weight cleaner that you can push around with a single finger. There are large wheels on the base that do a good job of maneuvering the cleaner around on both carpet and hard floors. There is a large handle built in to the cleaner, located right above the canister, which helps when you need to lift up or carry the the vacuum.

Unlike some other vacuums that have a wide rectangular base, the cleaning area on this upright is almost perfectly square. Because of this design, the actual surface area of the floor that the vacuum cleans on each pass is less, but this also allows the cleaning base to fit into smaller areas between table legs, around chairs and such. It also makes for a smaller footprint when storing it. It's a bagless unit, so all of the dirt, hair and debris that is picked up goes into a clear canister that can be emptied directly into the trash. The suction tube the dirt goes through is clear and easy to see into, making it simple to locate anything that might get clogged in inside of it. The roller-brush height can be adjusted with a foot pedal on the base, so it can be set to work with the appropriate carpet height.

My Kenmore upright finally failed me after years of trusty service. When I first saw this Electrolux I was intrigued by the awesome looks and fond memories of Elextrolux canisters of my past. Then I started reading reviews and for every positive it seemed like there was a negative. I looked at Dysons, Sharks, LG's and Panasonics and saw some fine machines. One thing that struck me was that no matter how much I was willing to spend I swam through a sea of cheap plastic. The Shark was probably the best reviewed but it just felt like junk and the tipping factor ruled it out. Many of the reviewers complained of cheap plastic clips on the Electrolux but the $600 Dyson that I compared it to had the exact same clips. I went with my gut and got the Electrolux.

Having used it a few times I feel that I am ready to add my two cents to the conversation. This is one hell of a vacuum! It is light and easy to push. The only way I can see people having problems pushing it is if the height is set too low. For me though it moves nicely. The amount of dirt that I picked up was mind blowing! I had to empty the canister three times... thank god it is easy to empty! The extension hose is the best I have ever used. I have stressed it to the max and the vacuum never even hinted at tipping over. The versatool I felt was a gimmick and it is. It does however do a much better job than I thought it would. It is a worthy crevice tool and did a decent job on my stairs. I still bought the power brush attachment for $15.00 which is also great. So far, this is clearly the best vacuum I have ever owned or used. I actually enjoy using it. I would advise anyone considering this vacuum to give it a shot.

I love the way this vacuum cleans. We had a Sears that broke after four years, so I went to Costco and picked this up for less than half the original price of my dead vacuum back home. Nearly six months later it's pulled up more than my Sears model did in the all the time we had it. If I were rating only on cleaning, this vacuum would get five stars.

Unfortunately, the thing is so poorly constructed, I don't think it's going to last much longer, and I just can't afford to keep dropping $200 every six months on a vacuum. If Electrolux wants to stay in business, it needs to move their manufacturing out of China and into some place where company employees care about their craftsmanship. The vacuum is made almost entirely of plastic -- cheap plastic at that. It's almost a joke the way pieces are breaking. First, the HEPA filter started popping out. Nothing a little duct tape won't fix. Then one of the attachment holders snapped off. Didn't need it anyway. Next, the one of the catches for wrapping the cord broke. Now that I think of it, I think that was broken when I pulled the machine out of the box. Today, the valve stopper that enables you to use the wand wouldn't engage, so I got no suction. After poking and pushing this hose and that stopper, I finally got the stopper to engage, and I was able to finish the room I was working in. Then a plastic piece shifted out of place (not sure how that happened), so I couldn't latch the canister in the upright position. I'm just waiting for the thing to fall into a thousand little pieces at my feet.

Electrolux, you used to build a sturdy product. We passed them down from one generation to the next. What happened? Get your act together.
