We finally made the plunge and converted from carpet to hardwood floors. So naturally we needed new equipment for cleaning floors. Growing up, my parents always had Electrolux vacuum cleaners, the cylindrical (heavy!) bag types, and they seemed to work forever! We went looking around to all the dept stores and home improvement places, read some reviews (on Amazon) and decided that this model would be very nice. We didn't actually try it out at the stores, but checked the features, build quality and sturdiness.
All seemed good, and we ordered one on Amazon.
As is usually the case, the items arrived quickly and in very good shape.

Having run this unit through its paces several times now, I can say that it lives up to our expectations and needs extremely well!
It is light (a very big plus for my spouse), maneuverable and QUIET.....The slider control for the motor speed (and therefore suction level)is very convenient and smooth. We like the bag approach as well as the HEPA filter. Some people may feel the bag is a hassle to have to replace - Having had to empty out the old upright bagless canister, I can safely say that the bag is MUCH better. You don't have to deal with the dust, smell and stuff in the canister!
The self winding cord is also very smooth and sufficiently long to give good range for vacuuming.
It has the usual complement of attachments to get in small out of the way places and to vacuum furniture. The tube can be adjusted to any length which is nice.

I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers are trying to pick up but for hardwood or tiles floors and even (low pile rugs)this little "egg" works just fine and efficiently picks up dust, hair, pet dander, etc....

Bottom line: I recommend this vacuum cleaner.

Purchased this vacuum cleaner about a month ago and use it almost daily. I already had 4 canister vacuum cleaners of different brands because I use one each for the upstairs, downstairs, basement and garage, and one needed to be retired. Our entire house (including finished full basement) has either solid wood or tile floors - with a lot of Persian rugs everywhere. I do not own a vacuum cleaner with a power brush head because I do not want to beat and scratch the wood floors. This Electrolux was designed to be used on solid floors and area rugs. It is very quiet, significant suction, lots of features and the build quality is outstanding. It was made in Hungary. It is far the best vacuum I now own and will be buying another one or two. The old vacuums will be given away.

I also grew up with Electrolux and always wanted one as good and as dependable as that medal cannister that we used to drag around the house. It seemed as if I spend a lot of money on big, bulky, heavy vacuums that even with hepa filters and self propelling are just a lot to use. I have used a cleaning service for years now and do not own a vacuum cleaner anymore. Just a large commercial one for the large bird cages. In the spirit of the recession I thought I could do my own cleaning. What will I need? A vacuum cleaner.

I have stone floors and wood floors with oriental carpets and kilims - which are flat weave carpets. My house is also two stories with a flight of stairs about 20 feet up.

I also have a lot of birds and 2 puppies. So, I saw this vacuum. 14 lbs is easy to carry with that compact size and great handle. Going green makes me feel good, too. I used it today. Wow. The adjustible suction and noise control, light weight, adjustible heights and swivel everything - I could not believe how easy it was to use. It picked up everything and I could easily go off the carpet onto stone or wood just by pushing the suction adjustment with my finger.The edge of the carpets did not get picked up in the suction moving off to the floor and it did not grab the threads on the edges, either.

Under cabinets, beds, chairs, flat up against the side of the wall without scratching. Picked up bird seeds, hair, and a little dry puppy poo I missed on a carpet. The variable noise control is a great idea around little animals. My little pups tried to play with it.

I love this vacuum!
I have a large apartment with old wooden floors that get a lot of dust and pet hair stuck between the boards. It has enough suction to thoroughly clean them as well as my two low pile area rugs.
And it's SO QUIET, which is great when, like us, you live in a multi-unit building.
Probably not the best vacuum for a fully carpeted apartment because of it's lack of a rolling-bristle-brush; but I couldn't be happier!

This vacuum is very nice. I've been wanting to get a canister vac for over a year. The lady I bought my native american-inspired rugs from suggested it was not good to use an upright with a vigorous brush. And the guy that installed my curtains and blinds said I need to vacuum them once a year. My cheap upright was not up to the task. It had gotten a best buy rating by consumer reports a few years back and worked well on carpets but was extremely noisy. So when I ran out of bags for the upright I finally did my shopping and bought this electrolux.

I was concerned about whether this vac would have enough suction. Consumer Reports recently reviewed a similar model and said it was deficient on suction. But in my opinion this one sucks mightily! I've hardly ever used those suction relief valves on the handles of vacuums. I use it all the time on this one, and sometimes turn the motor speed down too. It has a cool speed adjustment that makes it even quieter than its almost silent self.

Another little extra I like is the slot on the body where you can park the head. It's super-convenient to store. I can pull it out the closet and start vacuuming in almost one motion --- just pull the cord out and plug it in. Nothing to put together, don't have to go fishing in the closet for the end of the hose.

I was a little surprised that it didn't have a motorized brush head. For some reason I thought it had that. But after using it I'm glad it doesn't. That would just make it heavier, and the light weight of this unit is one of its joys. It does mean that it's not quite as effective at cleaning the wall-to-wall carpets in the bedrooms. The friction makes the head hard to push on the carpet, unless you turn the suction down, and then you're not getting quite as much cleaning. So I may break down and buy some more bags for my old upright.

One positive surprise was the reach of the cord. I can clean my entire 1600 sf home (except for the far end of the master bathroom) with the cord plugged into one outlet.

Finally one last surprise is that when you pick the unit up while it's running, it blasts warm air in your face. The exhaust blows straight up. But it's blowing it through a HEPA filter, so the exhaust is probably cleaner than all the rest of the air in your house-- not your typical yucky vac smell. I guess they designed it like that so the exhaust doesn't blow the dirt around on the floor like an ordinary vac. Probably a good idea.

I never spent this much on a vacuum before, but I don't think I'll regret it. This is sweet little unit.

If you're shopping for a great vacuum cleaner, look no farther. This one is QUIET(YES IT IS!!), lightweight, compact, and infinitely adjustable in terms of the level of power you might require. It wheels around easily and can be carried with no difficulty. All fittings on the hose and attachments work securely. The cord rewind mechanism is fabulous. We have a lot of valuable Persian rugs here and the non-beating head on this machine is perfect for these low-pile rugs and bare wooden floors. The suction power is amazing (it will pick up your rugs if you let it) and is easy to vary by use of an on-hose regulator and/or another sliding switch on the machine itself. There is an indicator gauge for the level of debris bag fullness... and it really works! The only fault I have with this machine is that the 2 small attachments for crevices and upholstery do not have a secure storage spot on the unit, though they can be clipped onto the hose(not the best place for them). Other than that, this machine has made our house much cleaner than our old Eureka or Hoover machines ever did. Buy it!

If you have carpets, get a vacuum with motorized brushes. The well designed EL6984A deserves its high customer reviews for excellent results on bare floors, dusting, picking up pet hair, and quiet operation. The suction is adjustable using either or both the motor power control on the canister and the air gap slide on the hose handle. Lowering the power often results in more effective pet hair removal from upholstery or fabrics. The canister follows you as you vacuum rolling easily on 2 big rear wheels and a small 360 degree swiveling front wheel. The vacuum is very quiet on its low setting, moderately louder at maximum power, but my scaredy-cat still leaves the room I'm vacuuming. The combination dust brush/upholstery and crevice tools work well. The 24-foot cord allows minimum changing of sockets and the cord retractor works flawlessly. I'm looking for a vacuuming apron with two front pockets to solve the lack of a tool caddy. I bought the vacuum from Amazon for $215 plus 8.875% sales tax with free shipping to NYC. It arrived in 4 business days via UPS. The extra bags I ordered arrived a few days later. Saved $85 off the local stores (Macy's, Penny's, Target, Best Buy) prices. Totally pleased with the whole transaction.

Nice little vacuum. Sent mine back after one day. I have all wood floors and one area rug. Problem was that it doesn't do well even on my low-pile area rug. I only want one vacuum cleaner so I sent it back. I also felt the head of the vacuum was rather short which means more passes on your floor. For the price I think there are better options out there.

I loved this vacuum because it worked great on my wood floors....for the first 3 months that is. After that, the floor attachment broke, and the cord will not retract anymore. The parts are plastic and flismy. I thought it was a great buy for an electrolux, and now I know why. Don't waste your money! Oh, and it does not work on carpets, only wood floors.

I LOVE my new vac! It does the job, doesn't make my head hurt with the noise, keeps all the dust to itself, and even makes my dated carpeting look like new. Love the carrying handle, and that all of the pieces click - and hold. With the one this one replaced, the pieces were coming off all the time.

The only complaint I have is that the poor thing topples over in tight turns. But I'm sure I can learn to maneuver it more gently, we'll be blissfully happy together.

(Geez, I sound like a fifties housewife, but the vacuum really made my life a lot better!)
