Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Many computational instruments have succumbed to the power of the digital computer. This is not the case with the Smith chart. A testament to Phil's genius is that his chart remains an important training tool and has evolved into a new role as a display grid on computer instrument screens. winSmith, a supplemental program to the book, is available form Noble Publishing.

From the Author

The purpose of this book is to provide the student, the laboratory technician and the engineer with a comprehensive and practical source volume on SMITH CHARTS and their related overlays. In general, the book describes the mechanics of these charts in relation to the guided-wave and circuit theory and, with examples, their practical use in waveguide, circuit, and component applications. It also describes the construction of boundaries, loci, and forbidden regions, which reveal overall capabilities and limitations of proposed circuits and guided-wave systems.
