Product Description

Product Description
NBA Live 2000 rolls in the sixth generation of this very popular basketball series with a full license for the entire roster of NBA teams and players, tons of realism, updated graphics, and smarter artificial intelligence (AI). The N64 version offers two modes: arcade and simulation. In arcade mode, players pull off monster dunks and over-the-top moves that put that "Air" guy to shame. Simulation mode brings the game back to earth with tournaments featuring actual rules and regulations, tighter AI, and the game's signature nonstop fast action. Players can go 5-on-5 on the regulation court or 1-on-1 on a street court in the day or night.

TNT's Reggie Theus adds commentary and Don Poier, voice of the Vancouver Grizzlies, takes care of play-by-play reporting. Television-style camera shots pick the best view of the action with perfect camera angles, zooms, replays, and cutscenes. A create-a-player feature lets players build a player from scratch, adjusting his features, facial expressions, and playing abilities.

As expected, the graphics are very detailed, down to the accurate renderings of the faces of present-day and retired NBA players, including His Airness, Michael Jordan. Real-time lighting effects add realism, and true-to-life player reactions to free throws, high fives, congratulatory knuckle-touches, fouls, and injuries bring the spirit of the court into the game. --Eric Twelker

GameSpot Review
Like clockwork, EA Sports has brought the magic of the NBA Live series to the N64 for another year. Like any good sports series, a slew of new touches has been added, the most notable of which is the inclusion of Michael Jordan in the game's lineup. Yes, along with all the actual players, teams, and arenas of the NBA, the game also includes all-star teams from the last five decades, letting you play as some of the greatest players ever to set foot on the court. While the game includes several modes of play, such as an arcade mode with exaggerated dunks and flaming basketballs, a three-point shootout, and a one-on-one street-ball mode, the game's main focus is still happily on season mode and actual NBA basketball with actual NBA rules. NBA Live 2000's easy-to-use control scheme lets you jump right in and start taking the ball to the hoop. Once you've got the basics down, you can start experimenting with the game's more-advanced control scheme, which not only lets you pull off more maneuvers on the court, but also lets you set up offensive and defensive formations. The computer AI ranges from easy to hard (unless you're playing the one-on-one mode against Jordan, who always seems difficult to beat), depending on what difficulty setting you have the game set on. The computer teams set up plays and run them at the appropriate time. For instance, you'll see the computer kill the clock in the closing seconds of a game ifit has the advantage, forcing you to put on a little full-court press. Visually, the game looks quite nice. The players are good representations of their real-life counterparts. Their animation and moves are smooth and look quite natural. The game features multiple camera angles and zoom settings, allowing you to see the action from just about anywhere you like. The game also features an instant replay that shows dramatic points in a game, like big dunks. The replays, however, are pretty weak - the frame rate drops so low that it looks more like a slide show. In the audio department, NBA Live 2000 does a decent job of re-creating the sounds of the NBA experience. The game's sneaker squeaks, dribbling, and various other sound effects are passable. The play-by-play calls are way too infrequent. One nice audio touch happens when you use created players. If you enter a last name for your created player, and that name is the same as that of one of the players from the NBA, such as Anderson or Miller, the game will recognize it, and the announcer will call out the name during play. In the end, NBA Live 2000 is a good basketball game for the N64. It doesn't really offer anything special in graphics, control, or any other category. But it does do the NBA Live series justice, and it is the best N64 iteration of the series yet. The extras - like the arcade mode, one-on-one, and three-point contest - are nice and add to the game's value. Fans of previous versions of Live N64 will have a good time.--Ryan Mac Donald--Copyright © 1998 GameSpot Inc. All rights reserved. 5.0 out of 5 stars Booh-Yah!, December 14, 1999

Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
NBA Live 2000 rocks! It gives you many choices of what to do. You can play an exhibition game, or arcade game (similar). You can play a season, in which you have the real basketball schedule of the 1999-2000 season. At the end of the season, you have playoffs, but if you don't want to play the whole season, you can skip to the playoffs. In the season, you can even trade, or pick up free agents! But watch the trading deadline! There is real dates in the season mode that keep track of the trading deadline, but you have a choice if you want the deadline or not. You can choose if you want rules or not, or you can make your own! You can go one-on-one with Michael Jordan, and if you beat him, he will be unlocked for your whole game. Pick him up as a free agent for your team, three-point shootout, or one-on-one on a schoolyard court. Awesome players, awesome graphics, awesome dunks, awesome everything! (Controller Pack is almost a must for this game)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best basketball game to hit the N64!, July 12, 2000
By A Customer
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is absolutely outstanding in every aspect. The graphics will amaze you at every moment and the amount of options is perfect. There are six games which include one on one street basketball where you can play anyone in the NBA plus Michael Jordan himself. Arcade mode is place to go for sky high dunks and fast paced action with no rules. There are also hotspots which appear on the court about two times each quarter. They only stay there for about five seconds but if you shoot while standing on one, you'll make your shot every time! There are also the usual gamemodes, exhibition, season, playoffs and there's also a three point competition. The really good thing about this game is that you don't have to know anything about basketball to enjoy it, plus it's easy to play for beginers and the computer doesn't give you a complete hiding if you don't know how to play. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars NBA Live is the best game that has come out yet!, March 13, 2000

Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
I think that NBA Live is the best basketball game there is! Live has come a long way since last year, they've improved the dunks, the graphics and artificial intelligence. I'm also glad that they if you use turbo and run into a player they don't get knocked down and you don't have so many fouls in the game. I really love this game and recommend this game to everyone!
