The game is great. Runs smoothly. Reminds me of when The Sims first came out and I was addicted! Definitely recommend.

However, I didn't like the Amazon downloader. The idea is great. The average download time was 2 and a half hours, but mine took about 4 hours, and I don't think it was my new HP laptop's fault. But, the game did eventually download. You just need to go through various stages of downloading and each take an eternity. You think that once you get past the first download stage that you're done, so you get disappointed when there's about three more that take just as much time. Just don't get too excited to play when you order it, keep your patience!

Re: Standard Download for PC

The download took as much time as I expected. It's over 5 Gb so if you have a low bandwidth then it might take you some time....but I didn't have any problems. I couple of hrs is what I expected...just make some lunch and get some other work done.

INSTALLATION ISSUE - after the download finishes, it prompts you to install. I clicked the Install button which directed me to the Sims3 launcher. I clicked the triangle "play/launch" button but I said I needed to insert a disc. Obviously, I became concerned because I had purchased a DOWNLOAD. Also - up until this point I was never prompted to enter my product key which was another red flag that something went wrong.

SOLUTION:
1) Go to Control Panel/Programs and "uninstall" Sims3 if it is there. If it isn't, then just skip this step
2) Find the Sims3 folder that you downloaded (my downloaded as the default name "The Sims 3") and find the file Sims3Setup and run it. It will ask you to select your language, type in your product key, and choose your country.
3) This worked for me and I was able to play! Good luck to those of you with similar problems

FYI - I am running Vista with all the proper performance requirements

First of all, I've had an issue yesterday with the supernatural expansion pack which took about 2hrs on the chat with a very friendly advisor to be solved. The thing is, the registration process and installation of digital sims games is terribly confusing. So let me give a couple of hints of how to do it right from the start for everybody:

1. Download the Origin application from the EA website
2. Create an account on there and remember those login credentials for they will be crucial for the next steps in order not to mess things up
3. When you have successfully created an origin account, go to [...] and make sure to use your Origin login credentials (email and password) as those two sites are linked together, when asked for the key of your game, just use the one provided by Amazon
4. When you have successfully registered your game, it should tell you that you have successfully done so
5. Open Origin again and what a surprise, your game should show up there, ready to be installed.

Make sure to ALWAYS register your expansions and all using your origin login. If you do not, it will create a new account and your key might be lost, which happened to me last night and I had the chance to find someone sweet enough at EA to fix the problem for me.

I hope this helps. Happy simming! And big BOO to EA for making the installation and registration so painfully messed up...

I have gone through about 6 redownloads via Amazon's downloader. Averaged about 2.5 hour downloads. Every time I download completely and click on "Install" on the Amazon Downloader, NOTHING HAPPENS. I go into the file & click on "Autorun" & NOTHING HAPPENS (it originally would launch the Sims 3 Launcher, I would click "play" and it would ask me to insert disc...for a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD). I go into the file & click on "Sims3Setup", InstallShield Wizard loads, & when it stops loading, I get an error message saying that "Sims 3 version 1.00.632 is already installed. This installs version 1.0.631. You must uninstall previous versions in order to install this version." I contacted Amazon, and they sent me straight to EA tech support. I sent them an email 3 days ago & still have not been responded to. So, I have been live chatting with EA for the past 2.5 days UNSUCCESSFULLY. They said that my issue was complicated & needed to be sent to a "Senior Advisor"...I waited 50 minutes for this Senior Advisor, got to number 1 in the queue, & then go a message saying that no Advisor was available & that the chat was cancelled. REALLY?! Amazon and Electronic Arts should be ASHAMED of themselves. A digital download should NOT be this difficult. My PC is about 2.5 years old and meets all of the requirements. So, what is the problem?? This feels like $35 DOWN THE DRAIN! I WANT MY MONEY BACK, OR A LEGITIMATE DISC!!!!!!!!

EA's decision to try and force consumers to use its Origin beta platform continues to cause problems. I downloaded and played Sims 3 for several hours last night without any issues. Then I noticed that an update was available in the Sims launcher. I decided to install it while I went to bed. This morning, the game wouldn't start. EA prompted me to install Origin (which I had already installed for Spore--apparently they didn't think to check for pre-existing installations). Now I have a broken game, and their own help website admits that they don't have a solution for users who want to install it anywhere but the default C drive location. My C drive is an SSD; no way I'm clearing off system files to put a game on it. EA's tech support is terrible, and Origin has just compounded the problem.

In a nutshell, buy it on Steam.

I bought this game because it was fairly inexpensive and I thought there wasn't much risk. I enjoy computer games and liked the idea of creating people and seeing what happened with the choices I made, but I'm in the over-50 crowd and I knew the game was targeted at younger people. So now I've spent a few hours playing it, and I find it strangely addicting! It took me a while to learn how to navigate (it really helps if you read the instructions, which I eventually broke down and did) but once I caught on it was kind of fun. The theme music keeps running through my head at work! My first Sim was one I created, and I made her look like me and have some of my personality characteristics. It was a bit disconcerting when she "expired" in her sleep one night! At the same time, it freed me up to try some of the game-generated Sims. So if you're older and wondering if you'll like the game, give it a try! There seem to be some glitchy things that happen occasionally, but overall it's pretty entertaining.

I was a bit nervous buying and downloading this one after reading two things: 'For Vista & XP', and all the negative reviews from those who had trouble downloading and installing The Sims 3 on their PCs.

I'm happy to report that on my Intel dual core desktop w/ an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 Premium and having 3GB of memory, this game was downloaded and installed in less than 45 minutes over a high speed (18.5 Mbps download speed) connection. Once installed it asked me if I'd like to install the update to the game. That took another 15 minutes. And then... another 5 to have the update install. I wasn't sure if 65 minutes total from download to install finishing was good or bad, but frankly the fact it installed so easily was great in my book!

Once purchased on Amazon, I was sent an email giving me the keycode to the game (also offered up on screen after download). I easily copied and pasted it when asked to do it and things moved swiftly from there. The game will be in my Amazon "Your Game Library" in my account, should I need to reinstall it again.

The game loads slowly, but I'm sure that's a combination of the game and the PC. The fact that I paid under ten for it and it installed so easily, makes this a real deal for any fan of The Sims.

Gameplay is fun and responsive. The tweaks you can do to characters is a great selling point and of course the improvements over the previous versions of the game.

If you're into expansion packs: The Sims 3 Late Night - Expansion Pack [Download] and The Sims 3: World Adventures - Expansion Pack [Download] can be purchased for 3x's the purchase price of the game.

I've always enjoyed the Sims series. Not sure why it's so fun to guide your virtual people around, but it's a good distraction. I was disappointed at first with the new lifespan feature and how short it seemed. However I found you can adjust it from the options so you can have your Sims age much slower, or even turn it off all together. I'm still not used to the new neighborhood interface either - I tried to have two families live in the town at the same time, but messed it up somehow. I also wish there were more towns in the game, without having to buy a bunch of extra junk.

As for the digital download, I had very little trouble. I've got Windows 7 64 bit and the game runs fine. When I first downloaded the game, Windows said the launcher program had stopped working (in other words, crashed), but it loaded the game just fine anyways. After a month there was an update, and that problem went away.

This was one of my first purchases through Amazon's digital download service. I think the service is outstanding and will return. Unfortunately, the quality of the merchandise purchased was disappointing.

I have a brand new brand name machine with an i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 5700 video card running Windows 7 64-bit. I have updated drivers and very few active services and background processes. Despite exceeding recommended requirements, Sims 3 ran poorly with choppy graphics. Eventually, my little Sims started vanishing. I have discovered that this is a known glitch that has not been patched since the game was rolled out many years ago. The glitch means the game you were playing is no longer playable and you must start over. To make things worse, it will eventually happen again with the new game.

Generally, I try to avoid any games with the EA logo but given the games popularity I decided to give Sims 3 a whirl. While I think EA comes out with great game concepts, I am often frustrated by the poor design and implementation. Whether for XBOX 360, PC, PS3 or any other platform, I expect EA games will crash regularly, and have serious design flaws. Unfortunately, Sims 3 is no exception.
