Book Description

April 1, 1989
This revised and expanded edition emphasizes the basic concepts underlying the analysis and design of all discrete and integrated circuits. Contains an extensive treatment of semiconductor fundamentals; new material on power supplies and Schottky barrier diodes including useful models for diodes in avalanche breakdown and cutoff; a more accurate linear model for the biopolar transistor; the concept of the Early voltage; and an improved account of frequency response. Features two new chapters devoted to the operational amplifier and its specifications and the use of the op-amp, with a number of its important applications such as voltage references, comparators, differentiators and intergrators. Many of the examples and all of the problems are new.

4.0 out of 5 stars The text to Learn the basics of transistor design from, March 14, 1997
By A Customer
I used this text in college and the teacher was the author, my father also learned his circuit theory from the author. Its focus is on practical transistor design fundamentals. A lot of fine examples for illustration, and the problems leads the learning student from easy to hard problems in simple steps. There are a lot of newer books available on the subject but this covers all the fundamental transistor theory that a design engineer needs for background to move forward in the engineering curriculum and does so in a clear manner. None of the key models needed for more sophisticated modeling are glossed over. The author's experience as a teacher is what makes this a strong text. Since understanding of the sophisticated design issues in later courses are dependent upon thoroughly knowing the basics, this is the book to learn them from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference, December 8, 2009
As an instructor, I'm continually searching for new and different ways to present material. The material in this book is written from the ground up, which means it starts with fundamentals and builds up to complete methodology for designing analog circuits. Included are data sheets from that era, how to extract parameters and use real data in a design. This is a gem, and remains relevant 30+ years after publication.
