Sabre IV by Excalibur Electronics - I was very disappointed in this product. When you move a chess piece, you gently press it down on the square, move it, and press it down again. This is how the computer registers a move. Some of the pieces would not work, even when pressing them down several times. This is one of two computer chess games I have had to return to Amazon (see my review of the Saitek Kasparov Alchemist).

Over all it is a good game but sometimes it makes real stuped moves that a good Chess player would never make.

The Saber IV is powerful enough to beat a large majority of chess players in the world but it can also be set to low enough power level to keep the oponent interested. The estimated 1750 strength rating put this chess computer at a class A player level acording to U.S. Chess Federation, or just 2 levels below a Master level. For the beginner, you can set the play level to low enough level so you are competetive with the computer but as the player strength goes up you cna adjust the computer level upward to always have a worthy oponent and keep the game interesting. The portable size and the low price makes this the best investment in a chess set.

This toy is great. The bad is that if for some reason an electronic problem happen you are done. In my opinion not for kids. If so I'd say only for someone who is used to treat his stuff with care.
