Robert Penfold delivers again. As a muscian he meets the need for low-cost, simple yet elegant plans for guitar effects. As an electronics expert Mr. Penfold magnificently and accurately analyzes the purpose of each step of design. Mr. Penfold delivers a book appropriate for the electronics professional and music amatuer, or visa versa. This is the definitive book on guitar effects

This book has some neat projects with minimal but sufficient explanations of how the effects work. I think Pennefold is British, but an old ECG or NTE book will help you find the right parts. Everything used is available. Strip boards are used for easy board making. You could design & etch batter boards for every project. This is a neat, must have, for any effects builder's library. Some projects are better than others. This book has an expander in it, which is a great project to build study and incorporate into other effects. These books are getting scarce. There is not much there for your $100+, but it is a book I am very glad I own. I got mine for $12 years ago when a library discarded it. I keep it is a safe place, as people like to steal books like this from my shop. The projects are easy to build. All Electronics has the boards. Jameco, Futurlec, Newark, Digikey, Mouser, or Allied have all the parts. Modifications can be made to all the projects. The author is quite prolific and writes very well for these subject matters. I hope this book comes back into print someday. I knocked off a star for how much these small books fetch. If you find one for under $40 jump on it, and do keep it in a safe place.
