Customer Reviews

Will not turn off without taking batteries out.
Linda Griffith
The music is pre-recorded so no matter how the child plays it, the music comes out perfectly...not an annoying gift at all.
Delphine Ruiz
It is tiny but it was still the perfect size for him.

I've been searching for a good, educational violin toy for a long time and am very happy with this one. This violin is very realistic, so from an educational standpoint provides a much better introduction rather than the hot pink varieties. The music only plays when the bow touches the strings. It also has a few demo songs that play without having to use the bow. The violin takes 2 AA batteries. When it first arrived, I thought it was too small, however, it is actually a perfect size for my toddler. The only drawback is that it is somewhat fragile, which is not ideal for toddler play. She has dropped it a few times and it still works - we just had to reset it. Overall, great toy!

I was surprised at how fun this violin was. It looks like a professional violin but would not last very long if a child did not handle it like a real one. I would suggest you purchase for a child who is VERY interested in playing the instrument and is learning how to care for a real violin in the future...as a toy it would not last very long. The only problem I had was putting in the batteries but once they were in, the violin was really fun to play with. The music is pre-recorded so no matter how the child plays it, the music comes out perfectly...not an annoying gift at all.

I bought this violin for my 5.5 year old, who desperately wanted a violin for Christmas. At first, we were very pleased with it ... since she doesn't really know how to play, it was nice that the violin played pre-recorded music when she used the bow on it. However, just a few days after Christmas, the strings had become pulled and bent so that the violin would play by itself constantly (it plays a note when metal touches metal, i.e., when the bow touches the strings or when a string touches another string). Granted my 3.5 year old son tried to strum it a few times, which may have been the cause of the strings' demise ... but I had kind of hoped that a child's toy would be durable enough to take less than totally delicate treatment. Apparently not. So, if you buy this, just be aware that it has to be treated very, very gently ... and if it does break, you will be listening to one electronic note endlessly until you take the batteries out.

I find it unbelievable that none of these reviews mention that this "toy" is practically microscopic! I mean it fit in the palm of my hand. After reading a letter to Santa from an underprivileged child, that she wanted a violin, I felt compelled to buy it. I briefly played the violin in elementary school so I was so excited to get it for her. Imagine my surprise and extreme disappointment (not to mention the child's) to see a small box with an even smaller box inside containing a violin that could be shoved in my back pocket. There is no way a toddler much less a child 8 yrs and up can find this entertaining. I partially blame myself for not reading the size, but then again who would think such a ludicrous violin would even exists.

The description reads that the violin is 11 inches long and that the recommended age is 3 years old. The actual product is BARELY 8 inches and the box says Ages 8 ad up. This product is absolutely NOT a child's toy. It would get broken within minutes of a normal child playing with it. It is really just a novelty item. I'm sure it's cute and fine if that's what you're looking for. But not even the box claims that it is a child's toy... it's marketed to adults.

As a aside, the packaging did not hold up well to shipping. The violin's box arrived open, with it's pieces falling out into the shipping box. I only can hope it arrives back to Amazon unbroken, so that my return is processed properly. (To their credit, Amazon's customer service was prompt and helpful... this is the problem of a third-party seller.)

Although this type violin was sold in Cracker Barrel stores (which sold completely out of them very quickly) was larger in size and had about 8 or 9 pre-recorded melodies on it that played at the touch of the bow to the strings, this one has different and not as familiar tunes. We bought two of these smaller ones for our grand daughters (6 & 8) and they are a lot of fun. They can teach you timing as the longer you hold the bow on the string (ANY string) the sound of the note stays bright and crisp. There is a DEMO function that lets you hear songs on the violin but we just wish the seller had more choices of songs and the old American favorites were much more familiar and not so classical as this violin contains. Overall though, a lot of fun!

Great toy! Bought it for my 5 year old because he is interested in playing a real violin and we wanted to see how well received this instrument would be. Loves the songs and it is very fun and seems so real, except for its size. Wish it was a little more scaled to size but still a great buy.

I bought this for my toddler niece who is getting into musical instruments. This was not what I thought. The violin is about 12 inches big. The string are very flimsy. This is a difficult violin for a child to play around with. Honestly, I don't know why they're making something like this. It wasn't even enjoyable for me to play around with. I found a better violin at the JC Penny Outlet for $5. All together, that's $20 bucks I could've flushed down the toilet.
