This guidebook provides a description and log-on and system navigation instructions for systems ranging from the user-friendly America Online and the Well to those for computer pros, such as BIX and Netcom. (Crowe did not include CompuServe, Prodigy, and GEnie, since there are several books about them.) She also explains networks such as FidoNet that link up bulletin board systems (BBS), and commercial services such as DASnet that enable E-mail to travel between systems. She even covers some of the special-purpose networks such as EcoNet and New Parents Network. Sample screens and menus guide the reader through the log-on procedure. Unfortunately, she starts out by describing the Internet. Since this is the most complicated network to use, some novices may be discouraged from reading the rest of the book.
