Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

Depeche Mode started their career as a teenage synth pop band scoring a couple of hit singles in the early eighties but when their principle songwriter Vince Clarke unexpectedly quit to form Yazoo, no one expected them to survive, let alone reach the heights of fame they subsequently did. Depeche Mode reinvented themselves over the next few years and synth player Martin Gore came into his own as a songwriter, shifting the band’s musical focus from pop to much darker adult themes and a heavier industrial based sound. The band became a phenomenon on both sides of the Atlantic and by 1990 had become one of the biggest acts in the world with their winning combination of pop hooks and clever lyrical themes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was so excited to hear it...and was kind of let down!!, July 5, 2006

This review is from: Electronic Tribute to Depeche Mode (Audio CD)
Ok, so, I was so excited to listen to this CD I almost peed my pants! Im a huge DM fan, and thought this would be great....only it wasn't so great. I Feel You, Policy of Truth, and It's No Good had no vocals...hello? That's like the best part of the songs! Everything Counts ( one of my faves ) was made into an R&B song! What??!!?? Black Celebration sung by a Whitney Houston-y type voice! No Way!! Yes, way!! World In My Eyes....I can't even describe it..just garbage!! The best versions are Flux's People Are People and Transcient's Master And Servant. My opinion....don't waste the dough and just go listen to the real Depeche Mode!! Two thumbs down!!!
