Life's Not That Good with this DVD Burner for Lightscribe Discs,
By Wally (IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lg Electronics GSA4166BI 16X Super Multi DVD RW RETAIL (Personal Computers)
I bought model GSA-4166B several months back. I got it mostly for the small size (needed a small size DVD burner to fit in a micro case)and the lightscribe feature. The burner that I have has trouble recognizing lightscribe media. I bought a 25 pack of HP brand lightscribe CD-R's for the burner, at it only recoginized a couple of the CD-R's. I assumed it was the media so I switch to Verbatim lightscribe CDs. For about the first 5 discs, the writer worked fine, but now, it doesn't recognize the media anymore. As I write, I'm burning a lightscribe disc on the old HP lightscribe media that I thougt was bad, on a Light-On DVD burner with lightscribe and it works fine. Researching the web, it looks like that is a common problem with this burner -- not just one lemon. So, in summary about the LG GSA4166B, if all you care about is creating data CD/DVDs, then it is okay. But if you wish to create lightscribe labeled discs, it's better to look for another brand or model.
