A real mistake.....,
By
This review is from: The Electronics Handbook (Hardcover)
2500 pages full of useless information without any deapth in the material.
A complete waste of money that should have been spent on other books. I've at times tried to use it as a reference, but have always placed it back in the shelf. If you're into electronics design, check out "The art of electronics" instead.

absolutely worthless,

I have had this book for many years, and never actually found any useful information, not one time. Granted, there is a lot of material in there, but there isn't enough space to properly cover any individual topic (it doesn't even have enough tables, or quick-reference data), so the user would do well to look for the info elsewhere (in a proper book).
As a general rule, I now stay away from all of Mr. Whitaker's "books", he seems to have better editorial skills than technical ones, and he always manages to get a lot of garbage published (with catchy titles). Speaking of garbage, a couple of weeks ago I took this (heavy) book to its final resting place (the dumpster), I did not even want to sell it. I don't mean to be vicious, I have seen the good reviews, but I don't think they are warranted.

Unlike some of the other readers, I found this book very informative. Perhaps this depends on your own background and what you are looking for in this book. I am not an engineer but with a physics background and working on an experiment project, I found this book very useful. Indeed it is the most informative source I have found so far, except for the wiki, because it covers a lot of areas in brief articles, allowing you to know about the existence of various technologies and some of the key issues involved. Once you are aware of these technologies or issues, then it is relatively easy to find more in depth literature on the subject, but otherwise I might have not been aware of them. Alas, 15 years have passed, we do not have a similar but newer book, what a pity.

A reader from FEI Brazil,
This review is from: The Electronics Handbook (Hardcover)
This handbook is a very complete reference but also very complicated for undergraduate student. I have a very hard time trying to learn a subject from this book , because the ditactics is not very good. This is a chronical problem of the CRC's handbook, I also have the Electrical handbook. I wouldn't recomend this book unless you have a very strong knowloge in electronic engineering, and just need to remind some information from time to time. I gave a 4 stars grade because you can find anything regarding electrical and electronics in this handbooks.

The complete reference for all electrical engineers,

Anyone who has completed a degree in electrical engineering will appreciate this reference book. It is informative, up-to-date, and is very concise. All electrical engineers should have one. A great investment.

A Tremendous Collection of Material,
By Michael Schack (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Electronics Handbook (Hardcover)
I'm not even an electrical engineer but I can appreciate the depth of this mammoth compilation of information. It's a great technical reference for electrical engineers, network engineers and anyone who needs highly intricate information covering an enormous range of topics. This book is pretty darn heavy and isn't one of those books that many people have bought at one time or another, where the publisher could have compressed it down to a quarter of its size. There are enough illustrations to explain a point, however, there is no hint of placing pictures and illustrations just to fill space. I have so far enjoyed the chapters on SONET networks and fiber optic cable production but there is so much more. I have other books on LAN and WAN standards but this one descends deeper into the workings of the technologies, which makes this book a great asset. The one problem I have with it is that the section on microprocessors is somewhat dated, but the author of this section acknowledges that particular inevitability, so I guess that makes it ok.
