2.0 out of 5 stars Good Price but Questionable reliability LDS5811WW, April 2, 2007
This review is from: LG Electronics Semi Integrated Tall Tub Stainless Interior Dishwasher, Smooth Black
We were very pleased with this dishwasher at first. It was all it was billed to be, quiet and efficient. We especially liked the stainless steel interior. The warranty was good, too, so we had a higher comfort level purchasing this product even though at the time we were not as familiar with the LG brand as we are now.

Just after a year the motor went out. It was covered by the warranty but the labor was not. Then the dishwasher started leaking (it was a channel inside the door that connects to the interior vent).

I understand that LG has shortened the warranty for this dishwasher since it was first offered (I could be wrong so please check this for yourself) but this, coupled with our bad experiences regarding the quality and workmanship, have given us second thoughts about our purchase.

This is an update, fall of 2010.

Something less than five years later we smelled smoke coming from the door as it was nearing the end of a wash cycle. An LG-approved tech was called. He took the door off and found that the wiring harness was melted together in several spots and the control board was fried. He said there's a service bulletin on this problem describing where the wires come in contact with a tar like coating on the door interior, becomes brittle and the insulation loses its integrity. Although the control board is under warranty and there is reportedly a service bulletin addressing what seems to me to be a serious design flaw, LG won't help (and LG denies there is a service bulletin issued on this problem). Our premium dishwasher is toast.

Please be careful with your model if you own this. Looks to me like a potential fire hazard. I have reported this to the Consumer Products Safety Commission.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, January 16, 2008
This review is from: LG Electronics Semi Integrated Tall Tub Stainless Interior Dishwasher, Smooth Black
I should have researched this product better. I purchased it because it seemed to have some good features such as stainless steel interior, adjustable racks and the ability to wash only the top or the bottom.

First of all I do not like the racks. It is impossible to load as many dishes as the illustration in the owners manual indicates unless you have doll dishes. The plates and other items flop over when you open the unit to put in more dishes and the bottom rack comes derailed really easily.

Worst of all, in less than 6 months when I opened the unit after washing, the dishes were still wet. I thought it was how I loaded the dishes and tried again. Then I tried adding rinse aid. The next time I opened the unit right after the cycle completed and the dishes were cold and wet. I have found one cycle that seems to work, but that is not satisfactory.

I called customer service and the service company they gave me does not service this area. I am waiting for them to call back with the name and number of someone who will try to fix this piece of junk.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, September 17, 2008
This review is from: LG Electronics Semi Integrated Tall Tub Stainless Interior Dishwasher, Smooth Black
Like others, I bought this being that LG has a good rep. But the washer just plain rots.
Racks are impossible to load all the dishes, after 6 months the washer leaves everything soaking wet. Had a repairman out and he said it was the rinse agent setting. Changed that to full setting, still wet dishes.
I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. An expensive way to learn a lesson.
I did not review it at all. I took the word of the salesman in Home Depot.

Do NOT buy this.

1.0 out of 5 stars LG dishwasher LDS 5811BB, June 17, 2011
This review is from: LG Electronics Semi Integrated Tall Tub Stainless Interior Dishwasher, Smooth Black
We too have had this dishwasher for 5 years and nothing but trouble: started leaking, repaired, leaking again, motor problems and here's the kicker: we smelt a smoldering and burning smell and then associated it with running the dishwasher; found it was dead. Called the technician who opened the door panel which revealed a complete meltdown of wires and black mush - surely the kind of thing to start a house fire. All LG said was, sorry, it`s out of warranty. Do NOT get this dishwasher at any price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed, October 23, 2010
This review is from: LG Electronics Semi Integrated Tall Tub Stainless Interior Dishwasher, Smooth Black
Will not dry, does not wash well, and it makes horrible metal on metal sounds. We have had the mechanism replaced 3 times and have given up. I believe in their attempt to make a tall tub, they made the wash/pump/heat mechanism TOO small and unreliable. Our dishwasher repairman says these LG products keep him very well paid as he goes from one to the other all day. Lowes will not sell these, and shame on Home Depot or anyone else that does.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be prepared to wash by hand - Just Not Dependable, January 1, 2010
This review is from: LG Electronics Semi Integrated Tall Tub Stainless Interior Dishwasher, Smooth Black
Have had the dishwasher 3 years now. The door leaked 3 times in the first year, all covered by warranty. It takes 5 - 10 days for each in home repair. Since warranty ended the door leaked again, and an internal hose leaked flooding the kitchen floor. Both of these repairs I paid for, around $100 each. Today the control panel smells like it burnt up, and the unit stopped running. That part looks like it is covered under warranty, but the labor will not be. Looks like it is time to part ways with this, as I feel like I am tossing good money after bad.
As far as performance, the best thing about the unit, it looks great, and is super quiet when running. The racks don't load very well compared to a Maytag. The dishes don't always dry.
Conclusion: Add LG to the list of banned household appliances, just not made to last.
