5.0 out of 5 stars I'm obviously not a man, but....
I am interested in design for men's clothing as well as women's. This by far the most informative book I ever have read on the topic of dressing for men.

It is witty, rich in history and useful advice. Mr. Boyer has written a true gem of a book that I hope he will revise into a second edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reference to American Psycho
Though it looks intriguing, I have not read this book. I came across a reference to a similar title in the chapter titled "Yale Club" in Brett Easton Ellis' novel, "American Psycho", a must read for anyone interested in '90s East Coast sartorial arcana and serial mayhem. A character poses a question, "Can a sweater vest be worn with a suit?" The answer lies in the pages...

I enjoyed this book and had to add it to my collection. Not a how to book, but a nice visit to several aspects of classic and better men's dress than most people will ever experience in our casual culture.

It is written from the view of a man that knows how to enjoy clothes and personal presentation and his love of good things shines through. Written with inteligence and humor you come away appreciating the finer things with the hightened curiousity of someone who has listened to stories of a wonderful far away place that you just might be able to afford to visit for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource and entertaining at that..., February 9, 2010
Such a wonderful piece that is so timeless and relevant even 25 years later. It goes to show that class never goes out of style.

Every college student should be required to study this book before venturing out into the business world!

3.0 out of 5 stars Reference to American Psycho, October 4, 2010
Though it looks intriguing, I have not read this book. I came across a reference to a similar title in the chapter titled "Yale Club" in Brett Easton Ellis' novel, "American Psycho", a must read for anyone interested in '90s East Coast sartorial arcana and serial mayhem. A character poses a question, "Can a sweater vest be worn with a suit?" The answer lies in the pages of (the presumed fictional book) "A Guide to Quality in Menswear". Perhaps it is in Boyer's book as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broad Brush Bruce, March 12, 2002

Mr Boyer has written in "suitable" a broad overview of clothes making the man. For certain, clothes help make a man but I would only recommend this book to someone who is a novice in the fields of suitings and furnishings.I look upon it as a general overview only. It is my thought that I would give this book 1 (one)star only.Mr. Boyer paints with a broad and sweeping brush which tarries nowhere long enough to learn much. I hope this look at his technique of subject presentation helps you in your choice of the book about "quality in men's wear". If ALL you are looking for is the basics then it will do.-emminently suitable-* 1 star only-Respectfully submitted: George M. Men's suits, furnishings and alterations specialist.
