More of an intermidate type book,
This review is from: Elegant Iris Folding (Craft Special S.) (Paperback)
This book is a small book, 6.25in by 6.25 in and very thin (0.125in) with only 32 pages. So the templates in the book are small . The patterns are used for greeting cards although the techniques can be used in other crafts such as scrapbooking. The cards are based on predefined sets of iris folding paper, which has colours already blended to get the cards exactly in the book. However, I have not found these readily available and have been using different coloured paper as well as gift paper.
This is not a beginner's book, in that detailed step by step instructions are not given except for the 1st example. The format of the book is to take shapes: circle, apple etc and then it will display about 5 cards based on that template shape, but with different colour schemes. The instructions will list for example 5 colours to make a certain pattern. However it does not detail which colours exactly go where exactly, so one has to figure it out before they construct or the design will not come out as anticipated. Also the patterns size while good for cards are small if you are just starting. I would recommend making a enlarged photocopy, if this is your 1st time trying out before working with the size in the book. Overall this is a good book for making cards, because it has some good ideas for some basic occasions. Templates included pentagon, diamonds, baskets, cakes, rose, spruces, comets and christmas decoration.

A Look at Elegant Iris Folding,

This book gives ideas about different shapes, rather than the circle, square and triangle that you see in most books. I don't think the technique is covered as well but you can get that in more primary books. I wish it had even more ideas but it is a very small booklet.

This is a small book, only 32 pages. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because there aren't enough patterns. It does have instructions for beginners and examples of completed projects. It has the most elegant rose pattern which can be used in many color variations.
Some reviewers have asked what papers to use for iris folding. Gift wrapping paper (new or used), origami paper, inside envelopes, tissue paper (crumple tissue for soft look) and ribbon. Our volunteer craft group has tried all these methods and you can't miss.

This is a very good book about Iris Folding. They use the European method of using folded strips of paper in their designs, but they can also be done the American way of using unfolded strips which makes the designed images much thinner and easier to mail. Folding Style not withstanding, these are beautiful designs and not that hard. I highly recommend this book. The designs are more varied and colorful and sophisticated than most American Iris folding books I've seen.

I adore this book. It is small but thats why you enlarge the pattern on the copier a bit. either way the designs are beautiful and unique. I can't wait to start making new cards!!

Iris folding makes a neat, semi-inexpensive way to make beautiful cards which will be keepsakes for receivers.
