More About the Author

Frank Miller is one of the seminal creative talents who sparked the current gigantic sub-industry of motion pictures featuring comic book- initiated product. A sub-industry which had become a super-industry. This most profitable aspect of this millennium's film production, now producing an annual flow of box office profits in the Billions of dollars, was launched when Frank Miller's graphic novel re-take on the classic comic book hero, Batman, resulted in an entertainment industry-wide reconsideration of the genre in the deeper and darker vision Miller brought to it.

Miller re-defined the presentation of comic book characters and heroic fiction with his grand-daddy of graphic novels, "The Dark Knight." This revolutionary work
not only kicked off the series of Batman films based on his redefinition, but a craze for such material that has thrown dozens of such heroes into multiple film franchise heaven. Certainly chief among these has been Miller's uniquely classical take on superheroic narrative, "300," and his "Sin City" books, each of which entered motion pictures with historic successes, and each now in Miller's creative phase of achieving its highly-anticipated sequel. Miller's co-direction of "Sin City" has made him one of the hottest
directors... as well as a guiding creative force...for the new genre. Or one might say "super genre."

Miller's latest graphic novel, Holy Terror, is his first original graphic novel in ten years. Join The Fixer, a brand new, hard-edged hero as he battles terror in the inaugural release from Legendary Comics.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible edition November 22, 2008
By Zippo
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Marvel unfortunately ruined one of the greatest graphic novels ever. "Elektra assassin" script Miller/art Sienkiewicz was an amazing ride; action, magic, cyborgs, spies, and political satire, laugh-out-loud funny and full of suspense, and with art that is as over-the-top insanely beautiful and innovative today as it was 20 years ago. I was so happy to get one of my favorites in a new hardcover version...
But...
This edition is slightly larger than the original (maybe 10%), but it looks as if it was VERY poorly scanned from the original art... The images are slightly blurry when compared to the older TPB. The other stories, with art/script by Miller are better, sharp, with good colors, but "Elektra lives again" (someone called it a "Dark Knight" version of Daredevil...) was A LOT bigger when originally released, and slightly wider, so here you get it at least at a 40% reduction in size!
With the DC "absolute" editions as comparison, this is just an insult...

5.0 out of 5 stars Consider this the "essential" Elektra October 31, 2008
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
When Frank Miller took over as the writer/artist on Daredevil, he revolutionized the character (and would continue to do so when he would return with the "Born Again" storyline and the "Man Without Fear" mini-series, both can be found in the Daredevil by Frank Miller Companion Omnibus), as well as doing something else. He created one of, if not the, most important supporting characters Daredevil would ever have in his lost love Elektra, who would go on to meet a tragic demise at the hands of the insane assassin Bullseye. However, a little thing like death wouldn't be enough to keep Elektra in the ground forever, as you can see in the Elektra by Frank Miller & Bill Sienkiewicz Omnibus, which collects the duo's "Elektra: Assassin" mini-series, Miller's "Elektra Lives Again" graphic novel, an issue of "What If?", and a rare tale by Miller from "Bizarre Adventures". The "Elektra: Assassin" mini is just something so weird you'll have to read it to believe it, with the amazing art of Sienkiewicz being the main highlight. The "What If?" and "Bizarre Adventures" issues are interesting, but the real gem here is "Elektra Lives Again". Written and drawn by Miller, the tale focuses on the still grieving Matt "Daredevil" Murdock, trying to put to rest the memory of his lost love, which is made all the harder based on the fact that Elektra just won't stay dead. There are obvious pre-cursors to Miller's Sin City (tell me that the injured and bandaged Matt doesn't look just like Marv), but that doesn't detract from how poignant and riveting the story itself is. The only real downside of this Elektra Omnibus is that Marvel's cover price is way too much in my opinion for what is featured here, but if you can find it at a discounted price, it's definitely worth picking up, especially if you're a Miller fan.... 3.0 out of 5 stars Over priced December 8, 2008
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I gotta say, that i actually liked how the book was bound and put together. I enjoyed the stories, though its not really a book about elektra, i mean she hardly says many things, but the stories are more about the people around the events of the killings she makes, if that makes sense. Some of it can be a little confusing at times, just cause your trying to figure out what the hell is happening, and of course you have some ridiculous plot points, but just kinda have to go with it and enjoy the ride.

I was glad i preorderd the book when it was going to be 50 bucks, so i only got it for 31. But the 75 buck price tag is just shameful, it has nothing special in my view other than a fancy cover, that could justify the leap in price. I love some of the omnibuses they have put out, but i hope marvel doesn't get greedy and mark everything that collects more than 10 issues omnibus and try to increase the price on it.

I'd only recommend this book if you can get it at 40-50% off :D

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite graphic novel. April 3, 2009
Format:Hardcover
Elektra Assasin was my favorite graphic novel when it came out in print. Much to my pleasure, I admit, it still is. The manner, pacing and mood of this story unfolds and reveals the epitome of the nature of Elektra. Her soul is not laid bare for easy examination by the reader. Instead Frank Miller, who I think will always write and understand his creation better than anyone else, peels back the layers of this twisty tale to give you but a glimpse of this volatile character without telling you everything and leaving you wanting more. Bill Sienkiewicz adds his artistic flair, that is part realism and part surreal to give you a visual tour de force. He makes the characters look just real enough that you could almost feel as if you've met them. Almost. Frank's art is also great, colorful and bold where it needs to be, and soft in other spots for surprising contrast, and ever so frank. A style that is so recognizably Miller. Ever straight to the sharp point. The other stories in this collection are however just as important in understanding what little we are allowed to understand about the Oh-so-good, yet Oh-so bad Elektra. Complex in character for just a comic book figure. Yet, simple in her character's dark focus. Enjoy this revelation of Frank's baby, I did.

But what they don't tell you in the reviews is that this Elektra graphic novel comes with three other comic book stories that involve Elektra. Two out of the three short stories don't really matter, but the third comic book that is included is 'Elektra Lives Again' by Frank Miller. If I hadn't read this edition of 'Elektra:Assasin' I would of bought 'Elektra Lives Again' separately.
