3.0 out of 5 stars Nu- Metal With Promise
That these guys toured with heavies Sevendust isn't surprising considering the tight bludgeoning rhythms on "Parachute" and "Blackjaw" sound like "The Dust" with different vocals. That singer David Galloway can actually carry a melodic hook and guitarist Matt Woods can actually do more than thump away goes a long way in separating this group...

Well, I was first introduced to this band by my good friend, who happened to be playing "Rabies" when I was over, and I was immediately caught by the song. In questioning who the band was, I promptly purchased the CD, and boy am I glad I did, one of the best CDs in my collection to date. I love the feel the band creates, the songs are well structured by still have a raw feel to them. The vocals are spot on with the melody (as stated by many before) and the music is a little simple but still hard hitting and makes you want to groove with it. My personal favorite is "Bloodshot." Anyhow, if you enjoy hard hitting rock, but with a little feel in it, this is most definitely a CD for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, March 23, 2005
This review is from: Element Eighty (Audio CD)
first off, i'm not into this whole nu-metal stuff at all... i'm into stuff more like mnemic, cipher system, diecast etc. but these guys caught my attention... i first heard them on the Need for Speed: Underground soundtrack (back in 2003) and decided to buy the CD (in 2003... decided to write a review on it now). When i first played it, i was pretty surprised. The singer is great and shows a lot of emotion when he is singing/screaming. Guitars are good too. The only problem is that i would of liked to hear more from the drummer... but, overall, its good

4.0 out of 5 stars For it's genre the CD is very good, August 23, 2004
This review is from: Element Eighty (Audio CD)
I am constantly looking for new bands or bands under the radar. After wearing out my Sloth and Darwin's Waiting Room, I was yearning for some more new music. Something both very hard and melodic at the same time. A singer who can hold a note and also pound your ears with appropriate screams, a band who's sound is both hard and refreshing. I found it with Element Eighty! They really hit you hard with nu-metal type guitar riffs and excellent vocal quality. The songs are a bit formualmatic and choruses are slightly redundant in theme but overall it is a great CD and will keep you energized. If you pick it up you won't be disappointed. Texas Cries and Slackjaw are good choices, but overall the whole disc is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard rock with a little soft twist., May 5, 2005
This review is from: Element Eighty (Audio CD)
It took me a good 2-3 times listening through this CD before I really got accustomed to their sound and enjoy what this band has to offer. The lead singer can scream and hold a pitch, and often alternates within the songs.A chorus can be sung with good pitch one time around, and be screamed into your face in another.

The guitarist is spot on; alot of times he matches the singer in pitch and intonation so it sounds like the lead singer has another singer backing him.

A few of my favorites include Rabies, Flatline, Scars, and Dummy block. Dummy block is the kind of song that is simpler then the rest of the album, but makes you want to jump with the song because the band's groove is spot on.

If you are not 100% into hard rock bands, this band is a little bit of a aquired taste. But it is well worth it as this band has alot to offer.

WOW! WHAT AN AWESOME BAND!

THIS IS HOW IT ALL STARTED FOR ME....OUR LOCAL RADIO STATION PUT ON A MAJOR "DOG JAM 3" CONCERT AND E80 WAS ONE ONE THE BANDS ON THE LINE-UP. SO OFCOURSE LEADING TO THE EVENT THE RADIO STATION PLAYED ALL THE GROUPS MUSIC VERY OFTEN.

HONESTLY I HEARD VERY LITTLE OF THE BAND UNTIL THEN....AND BOY DID I GET A REALITY CHECK! I NEVER IMAGINED WHAT GREAT MUSIC THAT I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT ON. I HEARD MAYBE 2 SONGS ON THE RADIO AND OFTEN HAD TO CALL AND ASK THEM TO PLAY IT EVEN MORE BECAUSE IT WAS NEW TO ME AND CATCHING ON VERY QUICK.

WELL, THEN THEY HAD A MEET AND GREET AT THE MALL IN THE MUSIC STORE PROMOTING TO SALE OF THE NEW ALBUM AND BECAUSE OF THE AWESOME PRMOTION ON THE RADIO I WANTED TO GO SEE WHAT WAS IN STORE.

WHEN I GOT THERE THE GUYS WERE SO FRIENDLY THAT IT REALLY IMPRESSED ME. THEY DIDN'T ACT LIKE THEY WERE TOO GOOD FOR THE FANS...THEY WERE VERY REAL AND DOWN TO EARTH. SO THAT MADE ME WANT TO BUY A CD EVEN MORE. I DID AND I GOT THEIR AUTOGRAPHS...AND ALL SEEMED FINE AND DANDY.

THEN IT ALL BEGAN,.....I LISTENED TO THE CD.....AND HAVE HAD IT IN MY CD PLAYER EVER SINCE. MY WORST PROBLEM IS DECIDING WHICH SONG I WANT TO LISTEN TO BECAUSE I LIKE SO MANY. I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS IMPRESSED WITH A CD IN A LONG TIME. NOT MANY CD'S CAN YOU LISTEN TO FROM BEGINNING TO END AND ENJOY IT ALL! I LOVE IT!

I WENT TO THE CONCERT AND THEY WERE THE OPENING BAND. MANY OF MY FRIENDS DIDNT THINK ABOUT GOING THAT EARLY BECAUSE THEY WERENT TOO FAMILIAR WITH THE BAND....BUT I MADE THEM LISTEN TO MY CD A LITTLE AND THEY ALL ENDED UP GOING TO THE CONCERT DESIRING TO CATCH SIGHT OF THE NEW HOT ITEM ELEMENT EIGHTY.

LONG STORY SHORT.......IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE CD YET....YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING....I AM TRYING TO GIVE YOU A CLUE.....GO BUY IT NOW!

REALLY AWESOME ! THEY ROCK ! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM AGAIN!

5.0 out of 5 stars E-80 begins their rein!!!!!!!!!!!, October 28, 2003

E-80 fans rejoice!! The major label debut album is finally here!! Passionate lyrics and hard-hitting guitar riffs continue to rock those who've been following E-80, and will surely drawn in and capture new listeners as well. David will tantalize you with his in-your-face, emotion-filled words, while the rest of the band provides a never ending assault of hard-core, intricate melodies. From old favorites like "Bloodshot" and "Scars" to new additions like "Broken Promises" and the ever-addicting "Rubbertooth", this band from Texas will keep your head nodding and continue to rock us for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Element Eighty (Audio CD)
It's a pretty good nu-metal CD. I don't really find there's anything too great about them to make them stand out, though. However, it's still worth listening to. I tend to ride the bus/subway a lot, so it's good listening among other CDs to kill the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathe Again, December 8, 2003

Abbie Hartung (The Colony, Tx United States) - See all my reviews

With radio friendly songs like "Scars," and "Broken Promises," and harder, tighter songs like "Bloodshot," and "Goodbye," Element Eighty shows they can play anything they darn well please. There is something for everyone here, whether you're a fan of hardcore metal riffs or if you just want to get a melody stuck in your head, this CD has it all. Element Eighty's refusal to sacrifice melody for the sake of just being loud is refreshing to say the least. In a time when most albums are little more than an excuse for a few radio hits, this little group from Texas, has given us an album with twelve amazing songs. Nothing here is expendable, every track leaves you wanting to hear the next one, and when you get to "Rubbertooth," remember to put your player on repeat to experience it all again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have Addictive Rock Album!, October 28, 2003
This review is from: Element Eighty (Audio CD)
I have heard the band before they got signed by Universal, and they kicked @ss. The newely added songs just makes them even better. Trust ME, this is a cd that everyone who likes rock and metal should own. I kid you not when I say the songs are addictive. They have more awsome songs that werent on the album but you can download them from kazaa or something to listen to them. But for the most part, This cd is one of the best rock albums I own and I have listened to them everyday for month and will continue too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This band is truely impressive!, March 3, 2005
This review is from: Element Eighty (Audio CD)
Now I am not big on knowing where the band is from or its history. But I do know what good rock sounds like. I am big on 40 below summer, chimaira, fear factory, ill nino, flaw, etc. What determines rock for me is a fast but rythmic beat, solid loud guitars, but most of all an outstanding vocalist. The vocalist of this band caught me off guard with his ability to sing and scream. In several songs of theirs it almost seems as if the guitar is tuned to his voice, because he sings the same note the guitar is playing with extreme precision and the guitarist strums with the syllables to the lyrics perfectly. Now take my word for it, its very hard to describe this in words, but if you hear it, you know its nothing but talent. Check the band out for yourself you won't be let down!
