5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!
I think this is Alicia's masterpiece album. When I first started listening to each song on this album, every song moved me. This album, more than any other, got to my soul. The music, lyrics, and rhythms really moved me! I was also pleased with the added bonus tracks on this edition and the dvd video of her in-studio performances. 2.0 out of 5 stars Why 4 versions instead of 1 fantastic?
The Element of Freedom is a great album. In fact, next to Songs in A Minor, it could be the best work she's created to-date.It takes several listens before you can fully appreciate it. There is a wide variety of styles and tempos that will appeal to a broader audience. I expect "Distance and Time" as well as "Empire State of Mind Part II" to become the next singles off...

There is a wide variety of styles and tempos that will appeal to a broader audience. I expect "Distance and Time" as well as "Empire State of Mind Part II" to become the next singles off the album.

Previous reviewers have done an excellent job describing each tracks etc.

My review is mainly on this one point. Why 4 different versions??

Version 1: Standard 14 tracks.

Version 2: The Deluxe Edition 16 tracks including the bonus "Through It All" and the heart warming, "Pray for Forgiveness"
Also included is a second DVD disc that features 4 live acoustic tracks and the video for Doesn't Mean Anything.
Listening to these tracks makes me wish I could have them as audio ones as well. Alicia does a completely
different take on them.

Version 3: Standard 14 tracks plus "Stolen Moment's" and "Heaven's door" You can ONLY buy this version at Target or as an
expensive Japanese import.

Version 4: EMPIRE EDITION - Available only to U.S. customers (so as a Canadian fan I have no chance of ever buying it)
via Alicia's website. It has 2 cds. The first is the standard 14 tracks. The second is a 7 song ep with "Lover
Man" ( a fantastic song that is a good as any of her hit singles)and "Almost there" along with 5 other live
songs like "No One"and "Karma"

I love Alicia, I don't want to illegally rip these tracks from the net. Why can't SONY and other record companies listen to true fans and create a better product? Sad thing is that I've even emailed Sony records to no avail. If only I could write to Alicia herself?!!

This cd would have hit number 1 on Billboard if it included all these bonus tracks on the second cd along with the live dvd performances. In this day of sagging cd sales, and consumers having to be more careful how they spend their hard earned money, why not make a product that has songs, videos, exclusives all in one?

I love that her style includes many types of songs that don't sound the same through the entire CD. I can turn it on and walk away knowing I will enjoy all the songs on the album.

2.0 out of 5 stars don't buy it if you want to see real music videos, January 30, 2010

I like Alicia Keys but here's the fact: this cd + bonus dvd, tracks thing doesn't worth it. If you want to hear the songs only, then buy the cd, which is only half the price. I bought this one and i was dissapointed. There is nothing in the bonus dvd to be worth watching. the studio videos are lame, and there are only 2 music vedios which you can always find on youtube. do not buy it if u all you're excited about is the vedios, Do NOT.

I'm a longtime fan of this talented neo soul artist; have purchased all of her albums to date and have enjoyed them. On all previous there were at least one or two songs to really grab you. She seems so passionless on this album. Nothing here grabs you; her most mediocre offering to date for me.
