Homework for English,
By Dustin (So. Cal.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Element of Sonic Defiance (Audio CD)
Strung Out's fifth album, The Element of Sonic Defience, is by far the best yet to come from this Southern California group. With the two best guitarist(Rob,Jake) in the bussiness and with a solid bassist(Chris). Backed by the the best drummer in punk(Jordan) and with Jason's melodys and lyrics. Strung Out continues to build their reputation with their newest album. With songs like Mission to Mars which blends their metal influeneces into punk giving this song a harder sound, but still keeping that Strung Out sound. With songs like Scarecrow and Everyday which sound like they should be on their last album, Twisted by Design, give the old Strung Out fan's somthing to listen too. Savant and Jackie-O are the two best tracks one the album. These songs show off Jason's song writing ability and their technical side of being a musicians. The guitar tones and the vocal harmonies are amazing. This record is the best to come from Strung Out, but some die-hard fans will be disapointed. This is a incredable record that is well worth buying.

Strung out has establised themselves as an incredable band. This new album is differnt than their last two, but still rocks. The first two times I listened to the CD, I was kinda ify about it. Now I love it. It is different, I wont deny that. It seems to me that they are expanding musically. they arent staying in the punk "rut" that so many bands fall into. I like NoFX, but everything is the same. It is ok for a while, bet eventually you reach a point where you question why you keep producing the same music over and over. I think Strung Outs new album is a wonderful step away from their last two albums, but you can still see their footprints in it. I think one of the reasons it is such a hit with me is the tempo changes. So many times a song just keeps beating on, same pace, and sound. This album does not do that. They mix it up and incorperate different styles in to their own style. Well done I say.

Excellent,

I don't understand how so many reviews for this album are so bad. On this album, Strung Out blends about three different genres on eight tracks, and it's done very well I might add. The emotions shift from song to song and it flows together nicely. This album proves that not only can Strung Out pull off the punk/metal/hardcore fusion, but they're good at it. Don't let all the negative reviews keep you from this cd. Check it out before you buy it, but I can't see why anyone who likes Strung Out wouldn't like this one.
