Homework for English,
By Dustin (So. Cal.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Element of Sonic Defiance (Audio CD)
Strung Out's fifth album, The Element of Sonic Defience, is by far the best yet to come from this Southern California group. With the two best guitarist(Rob,Jake) in the bussiness and with a solid bassist(Chris). Backed by the the best drummer in punk(Jordan) and with Jason's melodys and lyrics. Strung Out continues to build their reputation with their newest album. With songs like Mission to Mars which blends their metal influeneces into punk giving this song a harder sound, but still keeping that Strung Out sound. With songs like Scarecrow and Everyday which sound like they should be on their last album, Twisted by Design, give the old Strung Out fan's somthing to listen too. Savant and Jackie-O are the two best tracks one the album. These songs show off Jason's song writing ability and their technical side of being a musicians. The guitar tones and the vocal harmonies are amazing. This record is the best to come from Strung Out, but some die-hard fans will be disapointed. This is a incredable record that is well worth buying.

Strung out has establised themselves as an incredable band. This new album is differnt than their last two, but still rocks. The first two times I listened to the CD, I was kinda ify about it. Now I love it. It is different, I wont deny that. It seems to me that they are expanding musically. they arent staying in the punk "rut" that so many bands fall into. I like NoFX, but everything is the same. It is ok for a while, bet eventually you reach a point where you question why you keep producing the same music over and over. I think Strung Outs new album is a wonderful step away from their last two albums, but you can still see their footprints in it. I think one of the reasons it is such a hit with me is the tempo changes. So many times a song just keeps beating on, same pace, and sound. This album does not do that. They mix it up and incorperate different styles in to their own style. Well done I say.

Excellent,

I don't understand how so many reviews for this album are so bad. On this album, Strung Out blends about three different genres on eight tracks, and it's done very well I might add. The emotions shift from song to song and it flows together nicely. This album proves that not only can Strung Out pull off the punk/metal/hardcore fusion, but they're good at it. Don't let all the negative reviews keep you from this cd. Check it out before you buy it, but I can't see why anyone who likes Strung Out wouldn't like this one.

A 4 star CD, about as good as it gets for an EP.,

An eight song EP by one of today's best bands that is still makin' music. Seven of the songs are outstanding tracks. They could all be stand-out tracks on previous Strung Out albums. The only thing keeping this from getting 5 stars, is Mission to Mars misses the mark badly. However, 4 stars is a pretty big accoplishment for an EP. Go pick this up. It won't even cost much and you get to hear some of the best of what punk has to offer.

This album really shows how Strung Out have progressed. Their style has really changed since Twisted by Design, they've become much heavier and continue to do so with their upcoming American Paradox. Strung Out is my favourite band and these songs are the best I've ever heard from them. If you're new to Strung Out I suggest getting Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues or Twisted by Design first, since they're easier to get used to, but if you're familiar with the band, GET THIS CD! It's punk/metal at its very best. Also be sure to check out American Paradox when it gets released later this year or early next year.

Most kick... punk/metal album of the decade,

This is quite possibly the best album I have ever purchased. It took a little while to adjust to this new found hardcore vibe that Strung Out has dipped into, but my god does this album rock like no other album I have ever heard. Track #4, "Blew", is mind-blowing in its sheer instrumental and vocal genius, by far the best song on the album. Every Strung Out album is the best punk album I own so take that for what it's worth and do yourself a favor.

The first time I listened to this cd,I thought it was not good because they have changed there style. My brother made a mix of Strung Out and had one song on it called "Everyday Game".I thought that was a bad song but when I keeped on listening to it I could figure outt that this was a very good song. And after I listened to Strung Out "New Cd" it was great. It had some hardcore style in it.The guitar playing is just incredible with all the good solos he makes.Annd Drummer I think is the best in the band because he can do the most impossible stuff,Its crazy!!.I like this band because they always change there style in every cd.Not like AFI or Good Riddance.I have to say this cd needs 5 stars because it is such a great cd.I hope they come out with a nother cd even better. To bad I couldnt rate this cd 6 stars, later!!

Strung Out has redefined hardcore with this latest release and I love it. The best song is Savant, but they are all good. The singer is kind of whiney but not so much that it is annoying. The guitars are really cool sounding and the drums are right on. It you like any kind of hardcore get this cd. The only reason I gave it a four was because I hate the first song, it is just stupid.

Good, but MUCH different!,

I love STRUNG OUT a ton, but if i were to choose metal or melodic, it would definetly not be metal, and thats mostly what this cd is. I hoped to hear songs like Too Close to See, Firecracker, or Crossroads, but it is much different. Although parts of songs are very cool, I think they have so much more talent than they put into this one. If someone associated with the band happens to fall upon this, dont think of it as a put down, but just a notice that the band needs to go back to its roots!!!
